Article source: Rahul Bansal Partner, groupDCA

When a legacy jeweller brand from Hyderabad approached groupDCA to design their flagship jewellery store in the city– the vision and values of the brand were to be the touchstones for the project. Tibarumal Gupta launched his jewellery brand in 1920 crafting lavish and exquisite jewellery that came to adorn the city’s elite including the then Nizam of Hyderabad. Taking this legacy forward, today the brand strives to represent its core values of creativity, beauty and authenticity through traditional yet contemporary handcrafted jewellery.

MGB Headquarters in Hyderabad, India by Spacefiction Studio

Wednesday, July 28th, 2021

Article source: Spacefiction Studio

In Hyderabad’s dry, hot climate, the vast majority of office goers are resigned to spend their entire day within the confines of an air conditioned space with very little access to fresh air from the outdoors. Hyderabad a once laid back town is now a competitive cosmopolitan city, attracting many big-tech companies, who build millions of square feet of office space per year. Very few of these new structures consider local climate and culture conditions in their design. Most of these new office buildings are sealed-off glass boxes that rely heavily on air conditioning to maintain a specific indoor temperature consistently throughout the year, whatever weather fluctuations Hyderabad’s seasons might bring: hot summers, pleasant monsoons, and tolerable winters. This building paradigm, mechanically controlled and indifferent to context, perpetuates a corporate office typology that first emerged post-WWII in North America, and which soon spread to anywhere hoping to participate in the new high-speed world economy.

Never-Apart-ment in Hyderabad, India by Spacefiction Studio

Monday, October 14th, 2019

Article source: Spacefiction Studio

Context

Hyderabad is one of the fastest growing cities in India. The old city is space stagnant and the development is rapidly moving towards and happening around the new city, which has the space to absorb it. The soaring land prices around here are a direct result of this. The site is located in a relatively new, but dense layout right in the heart of the new development fast engulfing the city. It is enveloped by an existing residential tower and a soon to be built tower on the south and east. The north and west are flanked by roads which are the only breathable facades. Poorly thought out planning laws make this layout a cluster of close proximity buildings with the only relief facing the road. Typical area hungry builders’ plans dominate the surrounding built environment; with unusable balconies (often turning into utility storage areas) looking into each other with no privacy or view.

Article source: MORIQ

Earlier Joint Family Homes were a common feature in India but they have dwindled over the years.  Few homes have more than two generations living under the same roof.    The residence was built over a massive 1900 sq yard plot and is all about family time and relationships.

This is a functional home where rustic elements meet luxury, spacious interiors, neutral palettes and loads of sunlight and more importantly, a home designed to bring the big joint family together while also giving each member their personal space.
