Designed as a single floor dwelling, this house is a luxurious sprawl in the lap of a natural surrounding. The house is responsive to the series of palm trees that existed before and essentially orients itself towards it. It is designed to be inclusive of the natural elements- the sun, earth, water, air and fragments of the blue sky. The layout segregates through a level difference, the parent’s and son’s living units and yet unites through a meeting place, which is the more open central bay.
Located in the outskirts of Chennai, Confluence is a unique project in its scale and aspiration. Conceived as a resort destination and planned around a large central open lawn it is an oasis in its feel.
Shipara is a new office building tucked into a tight urban site with overbearing buildings on three sides. The front edge faces a lush park in liberating contrast. The programmatic functions are organized on alternating split levels. A circulation spiral orchestrates movement within the volume and links the various staff and management zones. Façade and roof apertures are strategically located to force natural light through, and swerve in different directions to capture defined views of foliage and tree-tops.
Located within the historic Art Deco building that holds the Eros Theater within the colonial part of the Mumbai, the recently unveiled French Bistro Chez Vous occupies the space that previously housed the iconic Sundance Cafe. A reinterpretation of the classic European Eatery, the treatment of the white, black and green interiors plays off an iconic French Art Nuevo motif, by allowing for its contemporary reinterpretation, whilst translating it across various scales, textures and usages. The brief handed over to the architects demanded a contemporary understanding of a traditional French Bistro, complete with identifiable elements such as a long serving bar, multiple backboards and French inspired moldings, hosting approximately 70 covers. The primary concern, to both client and the designers was in crafting out a delicate balance between a traditional bistroesque atmosphere and an upscale South Mumbai destination, being mindful to not simply the re-creation of a mid-twentieth century Parisian coffee shop within a contemporary Indian city.
The three hundred and fifty square foot project, a moon deck overlooking the Arabian Sea, introduces into the semi open space a program previously conspicuously absent within the large urban apartment. The brief demanded a flexible multi functional out door deck that can accommodate for early morning sea side yoga practice, hosting lunches and dinners, in addition to an evening time party cum entertainment area amongst other usages. Of utmost importance was the retention of the ambivalent nature of the space, allowing for a maximum of programmatic and usage flexibility. The concerned project boundaries spill over the primary living area of the apartment, serving both as the extension of, as well as an alternate to the large semi public leisure space of the living unit. As such the inner confines of the target area are provided with illumination from the overspill of the indoor space, with the outer edges seeking lighting from elsewhere.
The combination of natural simple materials and well – lit, ventilated spaces is the perfect recipe for a serene, beautiful home. This home proves that rustic charm can co-exist with sophisticated elegance. Employing exposed cement and brick, was the only requirement the couple insisted on, while the rest was left to our aesthetic sensibilities. Working to create the landscape, architecture and interiors, on the L-shaped land bearing a natural curve, allowed us to draw in a complete visual where nature could intertwine with the structure and interior of the house. The courtyards highlight and intersect the house, working as the natural source of ventilation and light, bringing the outside, inside.
Three Storied house located in Moratuwa completed in January 2012. A dwelling amidst a busy context that was designed to differentiate the internal space from its busy surrounding to create a serene space within.A minimalistic architectural language used to create the tranquility and to provide an effective hideaway from the hectic lifestyle of the owner.
Made completely from bamboo and cloth, The Tunnel composed of a number of squares that came together to form a spiraling structure depicting a barrel wave. It represented how the surfing scene in India is emerging by bringing together surfers from various parts of the world.
The site of the weekend house is located in the outskirts of Ahmedabad. The houses were to be designed for two friends, in the same plot. The purpose of the house was that of a weekend or a farmhouse, which later on could be used as a permanent residence too. Both the houses were designed very similar to each other, on the client’s demand.
Two individual houses were to be designed for 2 brothers and their families was the brief of this project. The plot (1000 smt) is situated in the R3 zone of the outskirts of Ahmedabad (a city in the western part of India). A very clear instruction from the client was that they did not want to divide the plot and use it as a huge common space for both the families.
