Bernaung means the act of sheltering, the very DNA that was imprinted within tropical belt inhabitant, long before we embraced the concept of a house. The name emphasizes of how easy it were to live in tropics, that reaching sustainability is nothing but to achieve comfort with the least energy required.
Design was to rearrange all of user’s activity during the day, and cycle it into as a loop within a giant roof hovering above it. Atrium as the center of the houses acted both as visual direction and wind chimney to ensure cross and stacked effect for natural ventilation.
Located at Kaliki, Bandung, Otten Coffee Experience is a renovation project of two storeys building with a total of 600 sqm building area where the old structure is preserved. Spaces are redefined and optimized to give a better experience for guests.
Located in a residential area, Taman Buana Permata house complex, Sarang Nest House design redefines house stereotypes and grew organically from the base to becoming, as a reaction to its environmental constraints. Sitting at the hook of the street, the building is facing west and south. The storeys are stacked in angles with protruded spaces enclosed by perforated wall to buffer the heat, either with traditional red bricks or metal screen that gives industrial look in contrast.
The new project, named Guha Bambu is at the east side. This building stands in the lot of 7.5 x 26 m size consisted new 3 storey Bamboo structure, 2 storey of basement. The technique to build the structure is elaborated from experimental school of alfa omega project. The technique separates the steel plane truss structure as a roof and bamboo structure to hold the 3 floor plate under steel structure roof.
After over a year of quarantine and pandemic shutdowns, the residents’ longing of outdoor experience emerged massively in Indonesian big cities. Restaurants have adapted from being just a place to eat to a place of domestic escape due to the inability of traveling overseas. Designed by Seniman Ruang, Talaga Sampireun aims to offer a natural outdoor dining experience with a new image of Indonesian rural life, while still retaining its traditional values. The project was located in Bekasi city, which has a dense population of family residents and industry workers. The brief was to transform 10.000 sqm empty land into a numerous detached building such as entrance, main dining, VIP dining, Saung, kitchen, toilet, and landscape consisting of greeneries, artificial lake, agriculture garden, and playground.

Paperhome is a compact house located in the touristic Dago suburb, known for a decent and relatively cold tropic weather, with scenic viewing at the uphill part of Bandung. Located in the crowded area of Dago, Paperhome sits at 6 x 10-meter lot facing northern side. Given a nearby public school and the main street within 20-meter radius, the noise provokes as one of the design challenge.
This project is a major alteration of an existing “Ruko”, which is a typical mix-use row house building commonly found in Jakarta, Indonesia. The site is 4 m wide and 15 m deep. A common typology for this type of structure is that it shares two common walls with its neighbors, which often poses a design challenge in finding sufficient access to natural light and ventilation. In response to this issue, we punctured holes on the roof of the stairwell bulkhead and on the 3rd floor slab to provide a healthy and playful work lifestyle for a small tech startup office.
A 900-sqft two-bedroom apartment unit has been reimagined as a one-bedroom apartment, with a large tranquil open kitchen, living, and dining area.
Designed with a serene intention, the apartment is celebrated with a sensuous palette of black and grey hues with the warmth of wood, an art of minimalism.
Japanese and Nordic aesthetics are infused in the layered details of the wood carpentry, as well as gentle grey stone quartz that is repeatedly used throughout the space.
