Article source: noa* network of architecture

When architecture takes on the vibrancy and rich diversity of nature, it will never be perceived as alien. As part of a special hotel project, noa* has incorporated features that will evoke memories, dreams and perhaps a touch of adventure in every guest.

For many years the cosy guest rooms of Parc Hotel Florian, situated at the foothills of the village of Siusi allo Sciliar, has been providing the perfect year-round holiday experience. A unique feature of this property is the magnificent park, where you are encouraged to linger among ancient trees, an idyllic pond and an outdoor pool. The complex has recently been expanded with ten brand new suites in a stand-alone building, which connects to the existing structure, providing both a sense of continuity and a fresh perspective with a distinctive architectural language.

Over the last twenty years, Italian design, inspiration and manufacturing have been applied several times to the world of luxury boats. Over the years, demanding owners and lovers of aesthetics have commissioned the creation of interiors for luxurious mega yachts that reflect the intimacy of a private home. Made in Italy interior design has conquered nautical design by changing its aesthetics, increasingly linked to collecting and to the creation of custom made pieces, but always in the name of flexibility, a necessary condition for the type of project.

GNR_Il Generale in Turin, Italy by Archisbang

Friday, December 25th, 2020

Article source: Archisbang

Structural, energy and environmental problems related to the large Italian built-up heritage lacking architectural value often raise the issue regarding the economic viability of renovation projects, which in the end leads to the alternative of demolition and reconstruction in most cases or the sharp option of using virgin land in others. Nonetheless, within the context of environmental sustainability projects of a wider scope which are currently more urgent than ever, and thus highly incentivized we can immediately understand the importance of renovation works aiming to provide existing buildings with features comparable to new ones. By adopting an approach decisive enough to meet the expectations of contemporary architecture, we can restart the life cycle of buildings, preserving their original footprint and minimizing waste and pollutants. With regard to the design phase, the presence of the past which is traditionally the main theme of reusing allows architects to develop intriguing interpretations on how to transform constraints into opportunities.

People Mover in Bologna, Italy by Iosa Ghini Associati

Monday, December 21st, 2020

Article source: Iosa Ghini Associati

The People Mover designed for the city of Bologna is a transport system that is innovative in terms of technology, the regulation of circulation and architectural features. The infrastructure, with a total length of 5084 metres, is composed of a monorail, with two terminals – at the airport and the train station and the intermediate stop of Lazzaretto, about halfway along the route, where the cars cross. The stop includes the depot and workshop, as well as the centralized control station.  The stops and the bridge over the ring-road/motorway system were designed based on a type of architecture that takes into account the need to connect an infrastructure to an urban fabric that will undergo major redevelopment work, but that is partially absorbed by the outlying countryside. Its stops are set in different contexts in terms of both architectural structure and urban fabric. The stops are connected to each other via a route with a walkway running along the track, serving as a passenger escape route in case of emergency.
