Article source: CUBO design architect

While drafting the design of cnest, we received an offer to design a house on the neighboring lot by sheer coincidence.

Although the layouts are quite similar to each other due to similar terms and conditions of construction, SOL has defining characteristics of embracing light and framing scenery.

Article source: Tai and Associates

The site is situated on a small hill in Yokohama. A new program, composed of two-family residence and office, is applied to the building, while paying attention to preserve the family’s history and memories attached to the land. The building is divided in different volumes according to the scale of the surrounding residences. The podium is constructed of concrete retaining walls, the main volume, which is regarded as piano nobile, is made of concrete using wood panel formwork with tongue-and-groove joints, and the white volume contains office. The form of each volume expresses a different function inside.

Article source: N MAEDA ATELIER

Imagine a site you might picture, when letting your mind wonder back in time: damp soil forms a soft ground, catching your footsteps, ancient, weather-beaten stairs, that have been used in earlier times as an earthen path, a lovely old retaining wall and carefully cherished plants.

Article source: Moriyuki Ochiai Architects

It is a interior of kindergarten which is specific for art education.

The plan proposes a multi-purpose space to carry out regular nursery activities as well as special activities for both children and adults such as concerts, performances, exhibitions and workshops for children.

Therefore, by installing playground equipment shaped like a big mountain, which prompt various activities, I aimed to create a space where children and adults can expand their imagination.

Geo Metria in Kanagawa, Japan by MOUNT FUJI ARCHITECTS STUDIO

Structure of the land
On the crest of Hakone´s mountain range along the Odawara plain is a site. It´s sunny rolling hillside was once planted with fruit trees. On the south side you have a clear view of the distant Sagami Bay, north of the site a mountain gives shelter from the north wind. Deciduous broad-leaved trees cast soothing shadow in summer, in winter they shed their leaves and allow weak sunlight to warm up the moist mountain soil. The perfect living environment was there, waiting quietly to be found. Rather than bringing a new priciple that is not derived from the land in order to complete a „normal“ house, a place of habitability should be established here.

Armadillo in Kamakura, Kanagawa, Japan by Yuji Tanabe Architects

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

Article source: Yuji Tanabe Architects

Armadillo is located in Kamakura, Japan. With the sea to one side and the other 3 surrounded by mountains, this town’s topography provides ideal protection from enemy. This feature led Kamakura to become the political centre of Japan in the 12th century. This site is located in a valley with a very narrow approach road ,so the carpenter was required to fabricate off-site at their workshop. The clients- a couple, her father, two dogs and a cat – bought the site with its old house four years ago. The existing house was built in the 1930s and enlarged 35years ago(this existing house do not satisfy the present earthquake-resistant standards).
