General Korean Parking lot types filled JukjeonCommercial Area
Parking lot either frankly reveals itself to be a parking lot without any consideration for design or surroundings, or disguises like a commercial facility. However, both cases are not welcomed in a city and ruin the city landscape.
Development districts of New Downtown in Korea that are fully filled with gigantic real estate goods only emphasize the legal maximum floor area ratio. The city identity is represented by the wall-covering signs not the presence of space nor void. The massive box lumps clutter the city with the logic of capitalism that is composed of investment, lease and presale, rather than the respective regional characteristics. This project intended to change the urban landscape through a proposition of a certain symbolically designed icon on a dry city.
A young couple with a beautiful daughter visited my office one day.
They wanted a unique house. Something that they have not seen…
We talked about a house that is made of large steps that keeps on rising.
We also explored spirals. All these talks stopped suddenly when we realized that the client had a tight budget.
They have four kids, and that is a big family by contemporary standards. They are both teachers in their late thirties. The first, and the most important thing they wanted in their new home was a place where their kids could play, read and study. They wanted lower floors for the kids and upper for themselves. They already tried it out with another architect, but it did not satisfy them, that’s when they said that they found about me, who appeared to be more playful, and more creative.
Reclamation of the site & Confrontation of modern and tradition
The site is located in the outer Bukchon nearby the designated cultural properties of Seoul city like rampart of Seoul. Hyehwamun, Kim Sang Hyeop’s House. Many Korean-style houses are existed till now, but remained houses are removed at that with the housing development prevalence of multi-family house last year. So it is one of the villages that are in progress of modernization (?) and Jo Rin Hun is same case that is pressed with the high-storied neighborhood. It was a distressed situation to unavoidably remove the existing Korean traditional house as a position of culture destroyer.
This scenic site is a part of the residential area developed in the natural greenery area of the mountain gwanggyo and that is located at the entrance area to trail to mountain.

Traditional but Modern
“Traditional but modern!” That the requirement of clients, in their thirties, who worked as authors and publishers. For a long time, successful translation of tradition of tradition expressed in a modern vocabulary has been a goal of design for Korean architects presently . That has been a very complex puzzle and a difficult problem to solve. However, it’s essential to study the heritage of tradition, since tradition could be the motive of creation.
Most of all, we focused on a robust, simple and tranquil architecture intuitively as we take up the form and space. Another point we considered is a vigorous architecture which evoke water vitality in still emotion. The circular form symbolises pure crystal of living organisms. Circular plan which is 32 metres in diameter, 11 metres in height soars from the ground. Firm, still and refined curve wall opens with gradual, arbitrary and rhythmic rules. We expect another tone colour through the open and solid curved wall. Musical facade is achieved through this project it plays in andante, moderato and allegro. It conveys silence and movement simultaneously.

The two silos at the expo site are standing at an outstanding location- situated between the ocean and the mountain- and also surrounded by two large public plazas. It is critical to redesign the current silos with foundational understanding for the importance of its current location. Since the silos stand at a focal point in viewing the ocean (from Silo A) and the mountains (from Silo B), this connection to its surrounding nature must be kept intact even when advances are made to its current design. Our design exploits the territory between the natural and the digital. The two silos will become an interesting destination where the world between nature and technology becomes strangely ambiguous without subtracting the original element in each.
Yongsan Dream Hub corporation presented today the MVRDV designed residential development of the Yongsan Business district: two connected luxury residential high-rises. A 260 meter tall tower and a 300 meter tall tower are connected in the centre by a pixelated cloud of additional program offering amenities and outside spaces with wide views. The towers with a total surface of 128,000m2 are expected to be completed in 2015.
Repair of the Axis
The neighborhood has topographical characteristics of a basin. Thus, directions of the house were open to centrifugal or right angles. When I climbed the roof, a road came to view. The road was coiled as if it was an unknown entity drawn in the sky over the numerous houses lined on the edge of the road connecting Ansan and Seongsan. I decided the route is a subjective meridian for closing or opening houses and substituting directions dividing windows, the entrance, stairway and floor to it. The layout of lighting, direction of wood material on the floor, flow of the fence surrounding the house and main entrance were created in accordance with the axis.
