Wafra Tower in Kuwait City, Kuwait by OMA

Friday, November 8th, 2019

Article source: OMA

OMA / Iyad Alsaka and Reinier de Graaf, in collaboration with Kuwait-based consultant Pace as a local partner, have revealed their design for the Wafra tower, a residential tower in the Hessa Al Mubarak District along the Kuwait City waterfront. OMA’s proposal was selected from among three competitors in a competition organized by the Wafra Real Estate Company.

OMA’s design consists of five residential blocks forming a stepped sequence, which modulates from a L-shaped volume to slab. This structure maximizes occupancy on the lower floors and optimizes views along the vertical axis of the building. The apartment blocks offer views on both the seafront and the city and are connected by an exposed, monolithic core.

Located on a prominent site in Kuwait City, the 300-metre-high headquarters tower for the National Bank of Kuwait will have a distinctive presence among the high-rise buildings of Sharq, the city’s growing financial district. The design combines structural innovation with a highly efficient passive form, shielding the offices from the extremes of Kuwait’s climate, where temperatures average 40 degrees in the summer months.

Luminous Drapes in Kuwait City, Kuwait by STUDIO TOGGLE LLC.

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018

Article source: STUDIO TOGGLE LLC.

Studio Toggle was invited by Nuqat, a nonprofit organization based in Kuwait to create an outdoor space for their cultural forum “The Human Capital 2018”. The location given was the outdoor plaza of the newly opened Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre in Kuwait City. The design of the pavilion stemmed from a desire to create a lightweight, soft and malleable space habitable in novel ways. The pavilion is meant to be colonized based on the activities that it will accommodate. These activities were analyzed and broken down into its anthropometric parameters.

The Exhibition Hall in Kuwait City, Kuwait by OMA

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

Article source: OMA

In the last decades, the increasing presence of brands within department stores has eroded the store’s capacity to define its own identity. Department stores have become characterless landlords of a chaotic rabble of brands, cancelling each other out through their constant declarations of uniqueness. The Exhibition Hall, a new development within Kuwait City’s 360Mall, tries to create a new paradigm that will redefine the relation between department stores and brands by letting them participate in an explicit cultural concept.
