This is the rehabilitation and expansion of a building in the historic center of Leiria for twofamily housing. The total recovery of the existing façade is based on a very common language of the city of Leiria, with the openings in bordeaux and white colors, surrounded by stonework. The vertical extension that marks the new phase in construction, is surrounded by a white wooden slat. The intersection of both architectural moments dictates the uniqueness of this project.
Architectural Project to increase the headquarters building of PRF – Gás, Tecnologia e Construção, S.A. which arises from the need to expand its administrative, warehouse and workshop areas.
The proposal considers the restructuring of the existing building, built in 2001. The building has the same functions, distributed in three floors. For the construction of the new building, right next to the first one, the existing functions have been extended by floor: workshops on the ground floor, storehouse on the middle floor and offices on the upper floor.
The church is located in the center of a crowded village. The intervention is based on a building previously constructed, where the interior was unfinished. We started with the idea of “building the silence”. In a world full of noise, the church represents a break, a moment of rest, peace and meditation. The strong spiritual character is present but doesn’t intimidate, it gives a sense of protection. The selection of materials, the way of moulding both natural and artificial light and the absence of images had the purpose of achieving harmony, a primarily condition in order to assure silence.
Located in the heart of the city – Leiria, Portugal, the existing building with more than 150 years is part of the historic center. It integrates the front of the pedestrian path Polis program, side by side with a protected area of the National Ecological Reserve that surrounds the border of the river Lis. The refurbishment included in recovery and restoration of the \”shell\” of the main building, saving the most of the facades and architectural and decorative structural elements.
Its shape stretches on the ground, unfolding from a wall that supports three volumes. Each one has a different scale, offering a different experience, resulting in a dynamic and playful composition.
With the purpose in re-qualifying an old building belonging to a derelict industrial area, this project proposes a new concept for a banking branch by presenting an innovative attendance desk design that leads to a new and fresh appearance, language and workplace blueprint, without losing the institution’s identity. This new image needs to be cohesive, simple in its form, identifiable from other institution’s branches, communicative and friendly.
Implemented in a slender lot from north to south, the project born with the aim of building a dwelling with a single floor
The typology was defined according to the best sunlight, as this is one of the richest of this Mediterranean country. So all rooms are oriented to the east, the living room (place more permanent) to south, the kitchen to west and garage to north where the functionality is the symbiosis of the project
The house is located in a “typical” peripheric urbanization of Pousos, a parish of the municipality of Leiria. Situated east of the city and at high ground, it works as a sort of panoramic belvedere over Leiria. So as to assure for more space and complete access to the faraway view, the owners bought the three lots ahead, over the “cliff”.
The building provides a strong relationship with its natural surroundings. To minimise its visual impact, the building is raised up from the ground. The glass, its predominant material, brings its inside and outside closer together. Both the ceiling and the inside floor paving white colour intends to visually frame the landscape. The support bathroom stands as a unique element to destabilise the whole proposal serenity, with the red of its inside fittings as a counterpoint to the whole building white colour.
