Thursday, October 25th, 2012

Article source: a.s.a. Sigitas Kuncevičius Architecture Studio

This primary school designed for 828 pupils is the first modern school that was built from scratch in Vilnius in the 20 years since Lithuania’s independence. As the surrounding urban fabric has no cohesive urban concept, the new school was intended to give the area an unequivocal focal point. It is also intended to serve a broader function for the wider community after school hours and over weekends.

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Article source: Architektu biuras G.Natkevicius ir partneriai

This is the first crematorium in Lithuania. The idea to build a crematorium was born in the interwar period, but at that time only furnace to reduce medical waste in Kaunas hospital was built. Increasing cremation traditions Lithunians use cremation services in Latvia and Poland. To make a path for the first crematorium in Lithuania wasn’t easy. Despite the big enthusiasm, the catholic mind and political hypocrisy, the lack and imperfections of environmental and other laws were overcome only in 2011. The owners of Kedainiai crematorium, doctor and environmentalist, showed the strength.

Soul box in Vilnius city, Lithuania by a01 architects

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Article source: a01 architects

Soul Box restaurant / bar is located on the main party street of Vilnius city, bearing the same name. The bars’ interior design concept is based on simplicity: two separate spaces – the restaurant / bar and the dance floor. The main axis of Soul Box is an 8m long bar, wrapped in square plywood structure elements, which easily transform into shelves, handrails or lamps. The versatility of the structure elements is what helps create the ambiance of the bar. Building structure and other elements of the old premises, which match the interior, have been uncovered. Soul box has resurrected the architectural heritage of a bygone era, of a building that perhaps for a bit too long, was left empty.

More projects by Zaha Hadid

Our new museum and cultural centre emerges in contrast to a surrounding vertical skyline – seemingly defying gravity as it ‘floats’ above the ground, its long, curvilinear lines generating a building of enormous fluidity, velocity and lightness within which visitors may ‘experiment’ with the very notion of ‘gallery’.
