The Memorial Care Todd Cancer Institute is a nationally recognized healthcare leader in cancer diagnoses,treatment and research. The Todd Cancer Pavilion will not only provide a state-of-the-art medical facility for the institute to practice leading edge cancer care and research, it will also be seen by the patients and community as an iconic center for healing in Long Beach and southern California.
Located on the busy 2nd Street in Belmont Shoes (Long Beach), CA, this shoe store focuses on high-end women’s shoes and accessories. The founder gave us this task: \”display shoes in a new, modern, chic way…someway that I have never seen before!\” We began with creating a simple palette of colors and forms with soft edges and decorative lighting. Ipe wood was integrated into the design as a way to warm up the interiors and bring nature in from the exterior.
(RE)Configured-Assemblage is a developmental landmark proposal composed of reconfigured traces of shipping containers, through diligently reconnecting, revitalising, and humanizing the accessibility of the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Blvd and Broadway Area. Through proposing three types of innovatively reconstructed modular shipping containers, the overall construct leads to open courtyards, interlocking units, and playfully generated programs that introduce a new innovative topological design that regenerates and reconnects the community.
Downtown Los Angeles based design group APHIDoIDEA proposes the eCORRE COMPLEX, The Environmental Center of Regenerative Research & Education, to the City of Long Beach in California. The project takes the ISO container used by the Port of Long Beach (2nd busiest port in the World). Designed and placed as a FINALIST entry for the AIA-LA / USGBC Emerging Talent Design Competition, APHIDoIDEA re-adapts the shipping container as core building elements and implemented sustainable strategies to educate its visitors and users about “green” building practices such as solar energy, water collections, interior daylighting, rooftop gardens, passive cooling techniques, reuse of grey water, to name a few.
