The building “Carmen Martín Gaite” is the first one of the Getafe Campus extension of the Madrid Carlos III University. Our arrangement, winner of the urban planning contest, lays the buildings on both sides of a linear park that organizes the pedestrian traffic of the campus.

The apartment building with 30 rental units for young people is located at the eastern edge of the Carabanchel development. Like other new urban districts in Madrid, this zone is characterized —with its oversized street grid, isolated buildings, unoccupied parcels, empty apartments and vacant shops— by the abrupt change from the booming market of 10 years ago to the present economic crisis.
The apartment building, located in Barajas in the group of blocks under the management of the new extension of Barajas, was generated mainly at first to catch the light, wind and outdoor life.
Based on the urban zoning for this block, the building is conceived as a game where the apartments act as blocks on top of five floor slabs creating interspersed terraces and open spaces.
A project guaranteeing continuity for Madrid’s architectural heritage
The architect Rafael de La-Hoz completes the Daoíz y Velarde Cultural Centre
As part of the Daoiz y Verlarde complex of former barracks the objective is to preserve the architecture; a representative sample of Madrid’s industrial and military heritage.
The program specified by the owner-developer, was the construction of a block of flats with basement, garage, storage rooms and facilities rooms. We propose a very compact volume of 18 dwellings with a standard program: 12 three-bedroom dwellings and 6 four–bedrooms dwellings, with the aim of achieving the maximum efficiency in the use of the floor area.
A consolidated landscape surrounded by gardens with big trees within the metropolis of Madrid is the fortunate starting point of this house.
The piece, of metallic and horizontal nature, produces the effect of having just one storey. With its proportions and materiality it both contrasts and blends with the tall trees of its environment.
Memory, memories, even bad memory always twist and fly when we work on architectural past, … yes, make a story, choose the tone, cadence, rhythm, accents, a story that naturally coexist with collective memory of the old slaughterhouse of Madrid, with another early report of new application dedicated to the movies while curled up with the forgetfulness of their own recurrent obsessions…
Program: Refurbishment and conversion of an old slaughterhouse into a public cinema center housing a film archive, film and television studio, two cinemas, offices, canteen, and summer film patio
The scope of the project covers from the development of a customised functional proposal for a user that is turning a new leaf to the rehabilitation of the structure, the insulation, the facilities and the modernisation of the existing construction systems.
The selected approach removes all obstacles from the floor to provide the greatest possible flexibility. Two basic elements are used: firstly, the central core, comprising the staircase, some shelves and the larder. The core is at the centre of the main space under the mansard roof. It connects the access floor and the space under the roof and allows the natural lighting coming through the roof into the living room. Secondly, there are two side strips for the functional elements (kitchen, bathroom, storage space and domestic appliances).
The Florida’s housing is one of the most representative project in our office.
At the project’s beginnings we saw that one of the most important determinant thing, it was its own situation.
The lot was really close to the A6 highway, a very important road in Madrid, so the constant noise it was very uncomfortable in spite of the location: a quiet place with lots of vegetation.
Renfe recognised the need to move the current corporate restaurant, situated above the platforms on Avda. Ciudad de Barcelona, to a new location on platform 6. The objective was updated, functional and representative premises that service the staff of the office buildings situated on these platforms in a distinctive location.
