The project involves the architectural recovery of a rural house in the Mantua countryside with expansion.
The historical part houses the living area composed of a kitchen and the living room on the ground floor (in the former barn) while on the first floor there is the sleeping area with bathrooms.
The extension instead includes all the accessory functions such as garage, laundry room, boiler room on the ground floor while on the upper floor it becomes a large terrace overlooking the countryside.
The intervention stems from the need to equip the current nursery school of the Municipality of Roverbella with an artifact, replacing the ancient already present in the vicinity, dedicated to the hospitality and care of early childhood, for the range from 0 to 3 years. The Asilo Nido “Gli Elfi” proposal has tried, in the economic balance sheet of the parties, to organize the spaces for a Nest that correspond to a capacity of at least 2 sections, commensurate in turn to be suitable to accommodate 30 children.
The covering in corten was the last phase of the renovation of “Chiavicone Bondanello”, started in 2009. The building was constructed in the XVI th century and the actual aspect derives from a renovation in 1900. Furthermore in 1960 the building partially collapsed after the river overflow and it was reconstructed. A new reticular steel structure with polycarbonate wall replace the volume that was destroyed; inside there is a polyfunctional space with the environment center of the Secchia river park. The new covering in corten linked the restored facade with the new volume and show the stratification of the interventions. The perception of the facades is dynamic and changes from every different angles, emphasizing the historical facade, the relation with the contemporary intervention or also the strength of the oxidised steel. The polycarbonate wall during the night works like a lamp that emphasize the social function of the building and make it a signal in the landscape.
The building is located in an industrial district in Gonzaga, south of Mantua (Italy).
It has been projected for a family company that has been crafting completely made in Italy fine knitwear products for 50 years. The firm was looking for a wider production site and, at the meantime, for a new public image, coherent to their quality manufacture. The plan is structured in two different parts: a wide and uninterrupted area, site of the production, defined by the shape of the prefabricated concrete elements of the roof and by the zenithal light coming from the sheds; a second portion that hosts the office segment and faces the entrance road through the wide openings.
The project aims to represent the character of a ritual place, through the introduction of a few elementary signs.
The space is divided into two distinct areas, the waiting area and the operating area, separated by a large door that emphasizes the theme of the threshold.
The door is partly openable to balance and partly sliding, and allows you to modulate the large room to adapt it to specific occasions.
The project involves the restoration of a small apartment for tourist use in the historical centre of Mantova.
The apartment BROLETTOUNO belongs to a long design research path, which emerges in various interventions on built heritage.
Basically we try to keep together two worlds, the one of the old and the one of the new, in a balance able to guarantee the identity of both of them. Light and shadow are kept together in their ambiguity and plurality, without sacrificing the reasons of one at the expense of the other.
