801 West Lafayette Blvd. Parking Garage in Detroit, Michigan by Albert Kahn and Associates

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Article source: LarsonO’Brien

Banker Wire recently collaborated with architects in Detroit to deliver a custom metal mesh solution for the renovation and historical preservation of a more than 90-year-old parking garage in the heart of the city.

Originally built in 1924, the parking garage at 801 West Lafayette Blvd. was one of two buildings on the Detroit News complex – the other being the home of the namesake newspaper. The garage was constructed for Detroit News employees and delivery vehicles. In 2014, Bedrock Management bought both buildings to serve Bedrock employees and other corporate tenants. Renovations began immediately with the preservation of their historic design elements top-of-mind.

G.G. Brown Building Addition – University of Michigan in Ann Arbor by Banker Wire

Saturday, July 16th, 2016

Article source: Banker Wire

The design architect of a new building addition and renovation project at the University of Michigan says the firm “pushed the envelope” with the help of Banker Wire.

Banker Wire metal mesh was specified for the railing infill of a new pedestrian bridge, which provides access to the new Center of Excellence in Nano Mechanical Science and Engineering building – an addition to the George Granger Brown (G.G. Brown) Memorial Laboratories building on North Campus in Ann Arbor.

Spanning more than 50 feet, the bridge had a significant impact on the overall design, and as a result needed to mimic the new building’s predominant design feature – a giant LED wall showing abstract samples of active lab work.

McIntosh Poris Associates transformed a 1,900-square-foot historic farmhouse, maintaining its blend of existing raw and rustic details, and refreshing others for a contemporary feeling. A consistent palette of materials includes solid-wood floors, crisp white walls, original molding refinished in black, and neutral-toned furniture. Local artists and crafters created much of the furniture from re-used and salvaged industrial materials.

Article source: C Concept Design

The new Kruizenga Art Museum (KAM) at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, has been described as a “breath of fresh air”. The uniqueness of the 15,000 gsf Museum building is largely due to its unorthodox, saw-toothed granite exterior.

Detroit School of Arts in Michigan by Advanced Glazings Ltd.

Saturday, December 20th, 2014

Article source: Advanced Glazings Ltd.

Detroit School of Arts is a new building housing 1200 students. The public high school is located in the heart of Detroit’s cultural centre. The building opened in February of 2005, they chose a green design as it has been shown to raise student and staff performance. The building is designed so that spaces that benefit from daylighting are on the perimeter and the spaces not requiring daylighting are in the core of the building. Mostly recycled-content materials, low emitting materials and products manufactured within the region were chosen for the building. The project team also diverted almost 60% of the construction waste by weight, from landfills.
