Viale Abruzzi Apartment in Milan, Italy by NOMADE ARCHITETTURA AND INTERIOR DESIGN

Article source: NOMADE ARCHITETTURA AND INTERIOR DESIGN

Renovation of a ’30s apartment for a young couple.

The project is an interpretation in a more fresh and contemporary key of the ’30s mood , which shines through in some obvious traces recovered from the apartment.

The living area is large and combines the kitchen, dining room and living room, a game of light and colors creates a very cool and friendly atmosphere.

The bathrooms (his and hers) are the two faces of a retro-style classic for her, for him more industrial.

Gucci Headquarters in Milan, Italy by PIUARCH

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

Article source:  PIUARCH

The redevelopment project of the old Caproni factory focuses on enhancing the stylistic features of the 1920s’ architecture and aims to transform this old plant into a large complex for Gucci, holding offices, showrooms and spaces for fashion shows and operations connected with graphics, as well as a canteen and restaurant. Recovery and enhancement of the characteristic shed buildings was the first element of the redevelopment project: set out in a regular pattern across the site and featuring modular structural bays, the abandoned industrial warehouses with exposed-brick facades generate, thanks to their spatial layout, a seamless interaction between the inside and outside. Particular attention was paid to the Hangar recovery, a volume of “exceptional” size, once intended for the final assembly of Caproni aircraft, that is now used to house the fashion shows from 2017. Moreover, the Hangar is enhanced by a large open and covered square connected with the main pedestrian axis facing to via Mecenate. This covered square acts as the core of the pedestrian system that includes a tree-lined square, common gardens, patios and green walls. Inside the regular layout of solid structures and empty spaces, a new six-storey tower closely interacts with the old construction: characterized by a glass façade covered with a regular pattern of sunscreens, the new building breaks down the site’s symmetry and tends to draw together all the different functions.

Historical Future: Milan Reborn in Italy by MAD Architects

Monday, March 19th, 2018

Article source: MAD Architects

MAD Architects presents their research proposal Historical Future: Milan Reborn for the Scali Milano project, community-reactivation masterplan research headed by FS Sistemi Urbani (FS Urban Systems) and Comune di Milano (the Municipality of Milan) with the support of Regione Lombardia (Lombardy Region). MAD Architects, along with four other international architecture firms (Stefano Boeri Architetti, Mecanoo Architecten, MIRALLES TAGLIABUE EMBT, and Cino Zucchi Architetti), was invited to envision a series of Milan’s dilapidated railyards as productive social landscapes that establish a harmony between Milan’s citizenry, the larger metropolitan region, and the natural environment. MAD proposes that these railyards become interconnected micro-systems conforming to five spatial concepts: “City of Connections,” “City of Green,” “City of Living,” “City of Culture,” and “City of Resources.”
