New Trade Fair in Milano, Italy by Studio Fuksas

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Article source: Studio Fuksas

The New Milan Trade Fair is an impressive construction, with a 5-kilometer perimeter and a 1,000,000 m² built surface that rises on a 2,000,000 m² land surface.

The New Trade Fair is made of eight big monoplanar and biplanar pavilions that, together, make a gross expositive surface of about 345,000 m², plus 60,000 m² outdoors. The whole route is on two areas, the one of the East entrance and the one of the West entrance. All the accesses and the exits to the Fair are organized through them. The buildings have got different functions (services, snack points, offices, hotel, commercial gallery, receptions of the pavilions, smaller expositive spaces). The placement of the buildings on the central axis is on different surfaces among water pools, green areas and epoxy resin floorings.

USB Houses in Milano, Italy by Francesco Fiotti

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Article source: Francesco Fiotti

The project relates to the site simultaneously on three levels: the current context – the P.I.I. “Cascina Merlata” – the potential development area.

Our proposal creates a connection between the ‘fast system’ of via Gallarate and the ‘slow system’ of the park, an idea of continuous and fluid urban space that may extend far beyond the simple boundary of the area. The buildings are arranged parallel to the director of Cascina Merlata, not only to respect its visual scope, but also to ensure the higher permeability to those coming from via Gallarate. The residential units are separated from the ground, bridge building resting on the access units to private residences. The idea is to return the soil to the ‘pawn’.

The Fiera Milano project is located in the heart of Milan, spanning 106 acres on the old fairgrounds of this historic city. The scheme of Fiera Milano incorporates residential and office development, retail space and a museum all built around a central park, a much needed open space within the city. In 2004 Studio Daniel Libeskind along with Zaha Hadid Architects, and Arata Isozaki & Associates won the commission for the development of the site. In addition to leading the master plan, SDL is designing the contemporary art museum, the central office tower, a residential tower, and the first housing parcel.
