Curved House in Minorca, Spain by NOMO STUDIO

Sunday, June 13th, 2021

Article source: NOMO STUDIO

Curved House is sculpted from a white solid cube. Its straight boundaries have been carved out with large spheres, resulting in a combination of linear, curved and double-curved geometries that define both its outer and inner spaces.

In contrast to its soft concave engravings, sharp vertical incisions organise the program in plan. Footprint restrictions lead to the creating of two hidden roof patios for stargazing and open-cinema summer nights.

Patio House in Minorca, Spain by NOMO STUDIO

Thursday, November 26th, 2020

Article source: NOMO STUDIO

Patio house sits on a gently sloping site located in Coves Noves, a small urbanisation on the north-east coast of Minorca’s island, Spain. The plot has great views over the Mediterranean Sea, but unfortunately has also a 10-storey hotel shooting up in the horizon; an old relic from times when landscape integration meant less. Because of this visual obstacle and since the neighbour’s house is only a few meters away from our plot, we decided to intentionally direct the views in specific directions. Thus, the house plays with solid and glazed walls that frame undisturbed views towards the sea, forest and garden while hiding the massive hotel construction and isolating itself from neighbours. The villa’s position on a hilltop gives it remarkable views, however it also exposes it to the strong wind from the north.

Frame House in Minorca, Spain by NOMO studio

Friday, April 12th, 2019

Article source: NOMO studio

The plot is located on the northeast coast of Minorca, Spain, with a magnificent view over the sea. The steep inclination of the plot together with the site regulations made the positioning of the house very limited. In order to avoid the house in front blocking the views, the house was pushed back to the highest point of the plot and the main entrance was located on the first floor. To further guarantee this clear view, the traditional program was flipped so that the dayarea is located on the first floor and the bedrooms on the groundfloor. Only the master bedroom can be found on the top floor, responding to the clients request to have a summer house easy to open and close for short weekend stays where maybe only the couple lives there. In this way, the house can be understood as a single level loft with an extension for their children and guests bellow.
