Introduction

The idea for the museum was first mooted in 2002 by the Institute of Archeology of the CAS, Brno, which is now also an expert partner and sponsor of the project. The project was prepared by the Regional Museum in Mikulov in cooperation with the Radko Květ architectural studio. Construction was then carried out jointly by OHL ŽS, a.s. and SKRstav, s.r.o. Pixl-e was the contractor for the exhibition, while the furniture and audiovisual technology were supplied by A.M.O.S. Design, s.r.o. and Lotech, s.r.o, respectively.

Wine Cellar “U Modráka” in Moravia, Czech Republic by ORA (Original Regional Architecture)

The refurbishment of the wine cellar in Vrbovec was our first project. The builder is a wine grower and father of Barbora.
Final design is based on the sketch of the investor who was completely sure how the wine cellar should look like. We designed a new entrance hall with a small kitchen and toilet in the area where the old cabin used to be. We cleaned more than hundred years old underground part and kept it in its original state. The biggest change is new three meters wide skylight which brings sunlight down to the cellar. We recycled old vineyard posts (very similar was used on the borders with Austria during the Iron Curtain time) to build a new archive for bottles. The archive remains the vineyard.
