Laayoune Technology School in Morocco by Driss Kettani Architecte

Sunday, July 9th, 2017

Article source: Driss Kettani Architecte

The project of the Laayoune Technology School in Morocco is part of the decentralization policy of universities centers in the different regions of the country. The program consists on teaching spaces(classrooms, workshops, amphitheater), library, administrative offices, teacher’s offices and services (maintenance spaces, staff accommodation etc.). The site, quite away from the city center, generated aneed of“urbanity” through an organization around an axial scheme, and thus providing a comprehensive and clear reading and at the same time a diversity of ambiences.

This house is projected on a north-south oriented plot and features a blind façade on the street while being largely open on the side and the back with the south oriented garden.

The plan “silhouette” is the consequence of the urban rules and the need to perfectly fit with the adjoining house on the east.

Article source: Urban Agency

The project for a 10 000m2 adult education centre, located in the south-west of Morocco in a harsh and isolated area, aspires to create a robust world class education facility that will give generously to its community.

SITE STRATEGY: LESS IS MORE

Although the given site is quite large, the building occupies half of it in order to create a compact and introverted building, with a humble and simple exterior leading into a rich dynamic internal courtyard – drawing reference to the traditional “Medersa”( first universities) for its social, cultural and climatic ingenuity.

The aim of the Museum and Cultural center is to invent a cultural center of new type without duplicating existing models, to create a hybrid space that takes into account the realities of the cultural Moroccan context, to provide different content and reach a diverse audience.
