Article source: Ector Hoogstad Architecten

Knowledge development is all about collaboration. That is why Dutch industry, government and educational establishments are joining forces in the so-called ‘triple helix’. This formula results in highly successful innovation environments that are vital to the Dutch economy. Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen is one such successful environment. With the opening of Center Court, designed by Ector Hoogstad Architects, another important step has been taken: the Campus now boasts a wide range of high-quality facilities in an inviting, accessible and representative complex.

Unique ‘Arts and Crafts’ facade for residential tower De Verkenner

A new residential tower completed on Churchilllaan in Kanaleneiland, Utrecht, will give a big impetus to the development of this typical post-war reconstruction district. The new 50-metre-tall building, designed by Mei architects and planners, acts as a gatekeeper to Kanaleneiland. The tower contains a mixed programme of housing: 71 private sector rental dwellings in the upper portion, 15 dwellings for autistic youths, and 9 live-work units in the base of the building.

Clubhouse of Eindhoven hockey club Oranje-Rood opened: eye-catching, functional and sustainable

Diederendirrix architecture & urban development designed a striking pavilion for hockey club Oranje-Rood. The large canopy built from laminated wooden joists in a triangular grid, supported by a few pillars, is extraordinary. The structure extends from the outside into the inside and creates a special interior with an unobstructed view of the fields. This year, Oranje-Rood originated from a merger between the successful top-class sports club Oranje-Zwart (first division champions for the last three years) and recreational sports club EMHC. This new start called for a new, modern clubhouse.

Oamsterdam in Netherlands by HofmanDujardin

Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

Article source: HofmanDujardin

Dutch architectural firm, HofmanDujardin, introduces a revolutionary, life-enhancing urban strategy for the city of Amsterdam. “We live in Amsterdam and we love Amsterdam. It is a fabulous city, and we want to make it more fabulous,” says Michiel Hofman. Oamsterdam offers an innovative plan to connect the northern district to the rest of the city. Mirroring the form of the exiting half-circle of the north, we will create a circular path through the city, thus restoring Amsterdam’s historic connection to the water and opening up the Ij waterfront. The inner ring will be a vital new connection uniting areas of the city, bringing space and air to the historic, crowded centre.

KAPKAR/ SF-P7S in Lent, Netherlands by Studio Frank Havermans

Friday, September 30th, 2016

Article source: Studio Frank Havermans

This pavilion KAPKAR.SF-P7S is designed and built for a temporary Building Lab (BOUWLAB) organised by Stichting Fabrikaat. This foundation, based in the city of Nijmegen in the east of the Netherlands is specialised in organizing temporary place making projects. This summer they erected a small settlement along the new shaped river bank on the north side of the city to focus on alternative ways of building and living in a more self organised way and show it to a broader public. This client asked me to design a low budget pavilion meant to program discussions, forums, meetings, small scale exhibitions, lectures and other cultural events during the period of BOUWLAB. Specific wishes were that the pavilion should have a striking appearance, be demountable and transportable to their future location, project ‘GRID” in Nijmegen, that it would provide space for 50 people, and that enough daylight would enter the building. Another wish was that I should collaborate with a MCT, a new company that developed a clever building system called KNØP.
