Hoekenrodeplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands by KARRES+BRANDS

Saturday, May 30th, 2015

Article source: KARRES+BRANDS

Hoekenrodeplein forms the link between the Amsterdam Port shopping centre and the Arena Boulevard. With the redevelopment of the New Amsterdam Building, the square has been developed as one of the final phases of the Zuidoost Centre Area. The existing, U-shaped building th at wraps around the square was expanded on the ground and first floors, and now accommodates public functions, such as a hotel and hospitality facilities. This redevelopment, along with the desire of the municipality to also allow events to take place on the square, made it necessary to revise the earlier design by karres+brands from 2006.

Lifeguard Nesselande in Rotterdam, Netherlands by UArchitects

Thursday, May 14th, 2015

Article source: UArchitects

“How does a building looks like which is not used for half a year during the winter? “
During the winter it is closed, but when the sun arrives the building transforms. The arrival of the spring is visible in the building: screens move up, doors slide open and the flags wave into the air. The building reacts on the summer sun.

Contemporary Bungalow in Haelen, Netherlands by Lab32 architecten

Friday, May 1st, 2015

Article source: Lab32 architecten

This villa in the Dutch village of Haelen was built for a couple with a child. It resides on the grounds of an out-dated ninety sixties bungalow. The villa anticipates the family’s love for outdoor living. The box shaped part of the villa seems to float above the sloping landscape. On both sides, it is fitted with windows that offer a panoramic view. The windows optimise the relationship between the in- and outdoor environment. They make both worlds transparent. The low-lying terrace is situated at the rear side of the villa and holds a swimming pool and koi pond. The terrace runs into the covered terrace. Both terraces strengthen the relationship between the in- and outdoor living space. The interior was designed in harmony with the villa. It perfectly fits the minimalist aesthetics the clients aspire. The austere and pure design was combined with warm materials. We designed everything and left nothing to chance. Because of this, we can truly say that the villa is like a tailor-made suit that offers optimal comfortable living.
