Bussum Garden Studio in Netherlands by Serge Schoemaker Architects

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Article source: Serge Schoemaker Architects

The Garden Studio in Bussum involves the design and construction of a freestanding shed in a private garden that functions as a study, guest accommodation and storage. The challenge to fit a relatively large structure in a long, narrow garden resulted in an elongated plan. A geometric form entirely clad in shingles, combined with the transparent corner and rotated siting at the rear of the garden lends the studio a distinct presence and identity.

Tuesday, March 24th, 2015

Article source: Mecanoo

Within the new station hall an undulating ‘vault’, which has been designed to evoke an “unforgettable arrival experience”, features a scaled 1877 map of the Dutch city rendered in blue and white. Columns wrapped in a mosaic of Delft-blue titles, also reminiscent of the colours of Delftware, one of the city’s most famous global exports. This project is having a massive press coverage around Holland and is turning into a tourist attraction as well.

Zens showroom in Amsterdam, Netherlands by SchilderScholte architects

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

Article source: SchilderScholte architects

The first European store of the design brand Zens Lifestyle is situated on one of Amsterdam’s oldest canals and opened its doors November 2014. In this showroom of 32 square meters Zens presents its minimalist dishes and glassware, such as bowls, carafes, mugs as well as coffee and tea sets. SchilderScholte architects have created this delicate shrine-like interior to reflect the quality and design within the collection of this Asian brand. The interior is a synergy of local design methodology with oriental accents. From the outset of the project the architects looked at the differences in culture and used them as a design premise.

Beatrix College Tilburg in Netherlands by architecten|en|en

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

Article source: architecten|en|en

Ambition
The assignment was the realization of a new building for the VMBO- school as part of the existing Beatrix College in Tilburg. With the population prognosis of the municipality in mind, the new building possibly had to be removed after 15 years, but the life span had to be as large as 40 years. Therefore the budget was based on temporary housing. The combined design- and building time was limited to one year and the existing buildings had to be able to function during construction. Key elements of the Beatrix College for this construction were: exploitation and maintenance with a sustainable and above all healthy school.

Thursday, March 5th, 2015

Article source: MAXWAN architects + urbanists

Large budgets and enormous amounts of energy are spent on the upgrading of major Dutch railway stations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Rotterdam. The efforts at creating quality environments related to public transport should not be limited to the station building itself. By paying close attention to all public space surrounding the railway hubs, the promise of true Transport Oriented Development can be kept alive. Maxwan’s plans for Rotterdam Central District emphasize the quality of that public space.

Pubique in The Hague, Netherlands by Robert Kolenik

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Article source: Robert Kolenik

PUBLIQUE – bistro 2.0 is designer Robert Kolenik’s contemporary vision of a tried and tested concept.

In October, the Publique Restaurant opened its doors on one of the most exciting squares in The Hague’s vibrant city centre.

The brothers Casper and Sjoerd Smits and their cousin Maurits Jonkman, all experienced restaurateurs, asked Robert Kolenik to design a stylish but accessible version of that much-loved French classic, the bistro.

The warm copper colour in the stained glass windows was chosen as the guiding principle for the design.
