Regiocentrale Zuid in Dutch-Belgian, Netherlands by Wiel Arets Architects

Thursday, September 18th, 2014

Article source: Wiel Arets Architects

Situated in Maasbracht–near the Dutch-Belgian border–this sinuous 1.850 m2 office is a headquarters for the water traffic control of surrounding sluices, canals, and locks–all of which are adjacent to the river Meuse. This plethora of entangled waterways is heavily utilized for shipping throughout this area, at the confluence of France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. Numerous previously disparate waterway control centers were combined to create this new office, and this regrouping determined its primary, curvilinear volume. This elevated polygonal shape strengthens visibility from the interior toward the immediate landscape, by allowing for elongated views in all 360-degrees.

The IT firm CAB Holland required a building that would clearly reflect the company’s technical nature.
van Es architecten developed a modern design characterised by clear lines, an abundance of metal and glass and an orange-yellow overhang that clearly marks the elevated office section. The building’s design incorporates various sustainable and comfortable air conditioning solutions that make use of heat recovery, adiabatic cooling and the recycling of the residual heat generated by the server room located in the complex.

Bedaux-Nagengast Residence in Tilburg, Netherlands by Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Thomas Bedaux of Bedaux de Brouwer Architecten designed this single family residence for his family on the edge of a residential area in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Recent changes in the zoning plan yielded a previously non existing lot that is situated at the intersection of three distinctly different worlds. These worlds, an existing block of row houses from the 1950’s, farm land with roaming sheep and an active cemetery, provided unique opportunities that informed the design.
