As a result of this process large parts of the city are transforming gradually towards a more urban character. The client is an innovative project developer, keen to play an active role in this process. Recently they acquired a piece of land close to the city centre for future redevelopment.

Studio Schoot lies in a green setting on the edge of the village of Oirschot. By placing most of the communal areas on the first floor, maximum advantage is taken of the panoramic view of the church tower of Oirschot to the front and the sport fields to the back. The use of apertures and open connections creates interesting sight lines and relationships which emphasize the spacious character of the building.

The Nedisco factory is one of the most prominent buildings in Venlo. The conversion and restoration of this national monument forms the crux of the Maaswaard Plan, the urban redevelopment to the south of the inner city. The complex – built from concrete, steel and glass – is an exceptional example of industrial architecture, which can be accredited to The International Style with the foundational theory of air, space, and light.

In a central location in Eindhoven, diederendirrix realised a striking office block in an existing but otherwise unremarkable industrial terrain. The massive block, Le Havre, stands rock-solid and independent in its setting. The concept for the building is clear and simple. The office units are placed around a central hall so that the opportunity of meeting co-workers is maximized. At ground level the building is enclosed by a patio which creates a direct and optimal relationship between the interior and the exterior.

A living heart for a modernist Campus

Erasmus University Rotterdam has opened the new public heart of its Woudestein campus. The project can be seen as a benchmark for the way grim and gloomy ’60s and ’70s institutional areas can be sparked to life. A new semi-sunken garage has been integrated with a new public space design and pond. Together with a new student pavilion, they mark the realization of the first phase of a unique and ambitious revitalization master plan.  The master plan was designed by the collaborating Dutch firms Juurlink [+] Geluk and jvantspijker architects.

Friday, December 6th, 2013

Article source: Diederendirrix Architects

Rieteiland Oost in IJburg is an island in Amsterdam with several detached houses, most of which border onto the IJ at the rear and are closed in at the front by a collective courtyard. This residence opens onto the IJ with a view over the Diemerzeedijk. Maximum use is made of this open view by raising the living area to the bell level and putting the garaging, together with the front entrance and workroom, on the subterranean level.
