Tiny Holiday Home in Vinkeveen, Netherlands by i29 interior architects and CHRIS COLLARIS ARCHITECTS

Wednesday, February 13th, 2019

Article source: i29 interior architects and CHRIS COLLARIS ARCHITECTS

In the middle of nature at the Vinkeveense plassen, i29 interior architects and Chris Collaris designed a tiny holiday home.

With a footprint of only 55 m2 this house still has a luxurious feel of space, and all around panoramas to the surrounding nature. This compact home is built for a family of four, including a living room, a kitchen/dining room, a patio, three bedrooms, one bathroom and two toilets. The layout is developed from the inside-out, the smart arrangement of functions make use of every cm2. Situated on a elongated island plot close to the lake, the positioning of the building volume is related to the views on the surrounding water and the orientation on the sun. By dividing the volume into four parts, the panoramic views and the invading sunlight become very specific. On the outside the diversity in size and the interconnected positioning create a sculptural image, looking different from every angle. In order to intensify this sculptural quality, all facades have a minimal design with invisible roof endings and window frames detailled behind the wood facade. All volumes have big windows or sliding doors which can be opened completely to fully merge the inside with the outside. On the inside, the dimensions and ceiling heights of the different volumes clearly articulate the separate area’s and functions in the house. Long sightlines crossing the outside patio provide a visual connection. By opening up large sliding doors of the patio the volumes of the kitchen and living are physically connected.

Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht, Netherlands by MMEK’

Monday, February 4th, 2019

Article source: v2com

The Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht opened in May 2018. From that point onwards, all healthcare, research and training in the Netherlands related to children with cancer is concentrated in one place.

Every year 600 children aged anywhere up to 18 are diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, the treatment options are getting better all the time and more than 75% of patients can now expect to be cured. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement: the proportion of patients cured should be raised to 100%, the side effects and late effects of treatment need to be reduced and by 2020 the Princess Máxima Center aims to be one of the world’s top five paediatric oncology research institutes in the world.

Article source: S-P-A-C-E Projects

A strong online presence may often signal an operational management that’s modern and customer-friendly, nothing beats a brick and mortar shopping experience. But obviously, only if it ticks all of the boxes. When Ace & Tate launched in Amsterdam five years ago, the eyewear company’s initial focus was online retail, and although that has very much remained, there’s a growing emphasis on physical retail. Following the opening of stores on home turf, Ace & Tate is now present in a string of cities across the Old Continent, including coveted shopping destinations such as London, Antwerp, Stockholm, Berlin, and Vienna.
