Most city parts of Almere, a city with almost 190.000 inhabitants, have a petting farm. In the ‘den Uyl’ park there used to be one, but it burned down in the early 80’s, leaving only its concrete foundation. Early 2005 we were commissioned by the municipality of Almere to design a new petting farm on the exact location and the remaining foundation. The building was finally built using almost only sponsored money, and finished late 2008.
On March 8th the urban transformation strategy Fasten Your City Belt, designed by Haiko Cornelissen Architecten, will be exhibited and published as part of the Dutch Europan 11 exhibition by the Netherlands Architecture Institute, NAi in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
This quiet meditation garden completed in 1992 is located in the ‘town without a history’ of Almere, The Netherlands.
The garden consists of an observation platform, three narrow water canals, and a fourth dry channel on which an oblong volume is resting. These lines direct themselves toward three particular locations: Salamanca, Paris, and Almere. They signify a world location in which love (Juan de la Cruz) and fire (Paul Celan) intersect in Almere’s future. The inscribed ciphers refer to the encounter between Juan de la Cruz and Paul Celan in the newly reclaimed land. They become readable at precisely those times when the materiality of forms dissolves into oblivion.
Construction start of MVRDV Glass Farm, Schijndel, Netherlands
In 1944 the small Brabant town of Schijndel which is the birthplace of Winy Maas suffered from Operation Market Garden bombings resulting in an oversized market square. In 1980 the then 20 year old Winy Maas urged the mayor to fill in the gap. Today Rembrand developers, the town of Schijndel and MVRDV start construction on the Glass Farm, a multifunctional building in the village square. The building with a total surface area of 1600m2 will contain shops, restaurants, offices and a wellness centre. The exterior is printed glass with the motive of a typical local farm; 1,6 times larger than life. Construction will be completed in December 2012.
In sharp contrast to the basic rectangular geometry of its surroundings, our design proposes a structure punctuated by fluid horizontal louvres, which seem to move when graced by light and shade – issuing a playful invitation to enter – moving upwards to culminate in a gracious curving roof-line.
The library of Delft Technical University is the central library of the Netherlands, but also the technical library of the Netherlands, linked by the latest electronic devices to libraries all over the world. The university library not only offers space to books, it also offers space for knowledge and research. It is a meeting place where ideas are exchanged. The programme allows for a thousand study places. That means that warmth and light will be given to more than three thousand students per day.
Studioninedots + HVDN wins student housing competition for TU Delft Campus
By invitation of housing-corporation DUWO, Studioninedots + HVDN, Architectural office Marlies Rohmer and Knevel architects each made a conceptual design for 140 permanent student housing at the TU Delft campus. The project parameters were to design a volume of 67 meters long and 5 storeys high, the building should have its own strong identity and a collective space on the roof. Another requirement was to have rain water harvesting on the roof as well.
The new headquarters of the Decos Technology Group in Noordwijk (NL) has recently officially been opened. It will initiate a new era for this international company having a custom-made workspace to encourage the use and apply their own innovative technologies. The commission for the building was acquired by Inbo Architects from the Netherlands in a competition between renowned Dutch offices. The new headquarters has been designed to symbolize the intangible cutting-edge technologies the company develops and uses, ensuring the leading position Decos has through their companies philosophy.
The “kas di coral” project is located in the new district “de Linie”, which is part of the urban area Europa Park in Groningen, Netherlands. In 2001 the undeveloped district was the scene of the Blue Moon manifestation. An event directed by Toyo Ito where a temporary symbiosis between architecture and visual art was created.
