The War Memorial in New Delhi, India by Design Forum International

Wednesday, July 12th, 2017

Article source: Design Forum International

The architectural construct of the national war memorial calls for the visual grandeur befitting a national monument and enmesh seamlessly with the magnificent India gate and the traditional Indian chattri. The visual grammar, vocabulary and material palette must be drawn entirely from lutyens’ architectural style; it should be likeAnother Avatar of the Lutyens’ Order’. Equally, the experience intends to invoke in the visitor, the spirit of patriotism, allowing him to pause by creating a controlled visual field and guiding him/her to slowly transition towards a silent, solemn experience of respect and gratitude towards the brave soldiers who put ‘the nation before self’.

Outré House in New Delhi, India by Anagram Architects

Friday, April 14th, 2017

Article source: Anagram Architects

Large urban residences both register and articulate financial and aspirational value. Catering as much to their inhabitants’ needs as to their whims, they are, at once, spaces of private indulgence as also objects of a more socially motivated aesthetic expression. Therefore, the luxurious and the exotic are sought in various ways from their design. In big cities, global market systems drive construction, fabrication and procurement logistics, and so, the extrinsic, or exotic, in terms of materiality and the machined, in terms of texture and precision, are more sought after and given greater value. Systems of architectural production also appear to have cleaved apart the relationships between making and material while form seems to rely heavily on geometries that ease the application of industrially mass produced and pre-engineered surface renders. Ironically, the search for the unusual in contemporary urban architecture seems akin to a walk in a “walled garden” of ubiquitous aesthetics.

GD Goenka in New Delhi, India by Design Forum International

Wednesday, October 5th, 2016

Article source: Epistle Communications

Educational Institutions across the globe are designed to facilitate the engagement of the young minds by creating interactive environments that are a blend of study, activity and play areas. In alignment with the same ethos, the GD Goenka group’s philosophy is to reinvent the school experience by creating the best physical infrastructure as per global standards, coupled with high quality, well-paidand motivated faculty. A simple and concise design brief was determined- to have class rooms that are equipped with the neoteric style of teaching and content. Unlike the use of traditional systems such as blackboards etc., novel educations tools take precedent in the contemporary education system; multimedia tools such as projectors, and adequate storage space for children to stack their bags, books, classrooms that are highly flexible to support a variety of formal and informal teaching methods etc. The design of the institutional development of a primary school (from kindergarten to class 5) enables these requirements while aiming to provide flexibility of spaces by making the building form itself as a part of the learning experience.
