Taiwan National Archive in New Taipei City by mecanoo architecten

Monday, March 18th, 2019

Article source: mecanoo architecten

Timeless architecture is the philosophy of Mecanoo & MAYU’s design for the National Taiwanese Archive: a building that hosts the memory and the collective identity.

The National Archives building is composed of two volumes: one that extends horizontally, forming a large canopy, protecting the ground floor, establishing the relation interior-exterior; the other, a perfect cube, landed on top of the horizontal volume.

Following its clear shape, the building is also organized in two zones: the public and the restrict access areas. The public zone is located in the east part of the site, connected to Wenhuayi road, while the restrict access area is organized on the west part.

Residence BZ in New Taipei City, Taiwan by W&Li Design

Friday, February 1st, 2019

Article source: W&Li Design

There is a line of demarcation between the foyer dust area and the space of Residence BZ. There are two traffic flow choices for the users. They respectively lead to the dining room and living room.  Many Y-shape frames travel in the space to play roles as the boundary area, interior light source and the ingenious designed hidden hooks.  There is a good ventilation shoe cabinet made with the bamboos set in the semi-open foyer.  We use the features of the materials to create private but not closed living space. 65 square meter resident meets the demand of three rooms, two halls and two bathrooms. Every area should be perfectly designed because the space is totally precious and the users will be very comfortable in it. Therefore we decide to allow the dining room to become the core of the space linking every corner, decreasing the walkway. In the meanwhile it can strengthen the relationship among the different space. Even more through the design of “light reuse”, the light of the study will be introduced into the room.  Then the Y-shape layout makes the space close and spacious. It can also adjust space usages according to the changes of the family members.

The Spiral Garden Museum in New Taipei City, Taiwan by Influx Studio

A NEW MUSEUM:   AN OPEN MUSEUM EXPERIENCE

More open to a wider public, Contemporary Art Museums are becoming hybrids programs and transforming the way that people approach to art and becoming real places to be. The key issue for New Taipei City Museum of Art is how to gather people and art while integrating the landscape into the museum and the museum into the park? In the “Art as lifestyle strategy” the project attributes equal importance to people than to exhibit spaces and art collections. Seeking a new equilibrium in the museum’s spatial structure, the project considers the people circulation as a raw matter to define and construct the museum experience. The architecture proposes to live the museum as a dynamic experience where people shall have an important role in shaping the museum’s image.

New Taipei City Museum of Art in Taiwan by Peter Boronski and Jean-loup Baldacci (designed using Sketchup and Artisan)

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Article source: Peter Boronski and Jean-loup Baldacci

This is a large multi-program museum to be built on the outskirts of New Taipei City, Taiwan.

We wanted to make a museum that was well connected to the site and had extremely good public spaces, both interior and exterior. Drawing on the historical convergence of influences from several different nations over the centuries, the convergence of the rivers bounding the site, and the multi-use program of the museum itself we chose to work with the idea of convergence for this project.

But by pulling the park up into the project and by bending the building down into the ground we were able to create something that is in between building and landscape. It is easy to enjoy this museum weather you enter it or just have a picnic, up high on the grass with friends, while enjoying the view.

New Taipei City Museum of Art in Taiwan by Design Initiatives

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Article source: Design Initiatives

Our attempt in the New Taipei City Museum of Art competition is to find the essence of art and to materialize our notion of art; to redefine the meaning of art museum and to alter the way art museum functions; to organize a relationship between ourselves and the world around us. In addition to animate forms we have manipulated the movement in order to induce the production of new urban opportunities. Our proposal is a synthesis of the different programmatic functions: art museum, park, footbridge, services in a flexible, versatile space.
