The two dwellings are connected by a “bridged” living space, providing continuity of the outdoor space. Located in a quiet space near a local primary school, the concept for this dwelling started with a dual yard layout, the front for guest parking and an aesthetically prioritised garden at the rear.
Kawanishi Fam is situated in an industrial estate in close proximity to Kurashiki station. It was originally a warehouse used for roasting coffee, but we renovated it to create an open office space. We used the top floor of the four story warehouse due to the lasting impression of the characteristically shaped ceiling, which takes the same form as the original sloped roofing of the warehouse. This ceiling was the primary motivation for us in deciding to undertake the renovation in its current location.
The house positions itself in Okayama Prefecture near Seto Inland Sea. The site is located on a terraced mountain hill that was developed as a residential land. The family is consisted of a married couple and a child. We considered a new way of architecture on the site condition, where views are open towards the north and the ground level is one meter higher than the road level.
Sites that were originally like this would have normally been given up on. The TT Architects approach to design utilises these negative elements, converting them into positive ones.
The client came to us wishing for the extension situated on the east-side of the block and adjoining the pre-existing main building be removed, and that a building of a similar scale be built in its place.
Two-family house is planned in Okayama City. Because of the light-industrial area around the site, in a residential area with big highways and factories, the house was a shape that extends from north to south. Because of the site on the north side of existing dwelling, it is necessary to consider the lighting and copper. So we started to design forms the basis of minute building through the courtyard. That two-family, light, in advance of consideration by taking into account the nature of the room, further developed as a result of minute building form, style and detached office. Appearance has been cut a slit in the magnitude of the room windows.
