The APA Apartment is a project developed to create a harmonious and full of life home for a family with young children. Inserted in a privileged location in the Batel neighborhood, in Curitiba, the 290m2 apartment has a modern and sophisticated essence, with ample spaces and designed in an integrated way to better meet the needs of customers. The initial plan, where the kitchen and balcony were isolated from the other living environments, was modified in order to integrate the spaces, generating a single and wide area where the family’s day-to-day activities converge, in an architecture designed to promote meetings. One of the rooms of the original plan was also removed, creating an office and increasing the living area, the space in the house where life takes place.
The Mossunguê neighborhood in Curitiba is one of the most remarkable results in the history of real estate development in the city, concentrating the highest sales values per square meter. The region, commercially known as Ecoville, is marked mainly by rapid transit roads, isolated buildings, high walls and little life in the public space.
Almost as a counterpoint, José Carolo Street is configured as a quiet street, with smaller buildings and a more friendly urban scale. The site, just one block away from the main traffic roads, exemplifies the contrasts of the still growing neighborhood.
The project is located in a very consolidated urban sector, on a busy street south of the city of Paraná.
Initially, the place was an undeveloped and depopulated area in which a small temple was erected, with a gabled roof and side tower. Then, as the years progressed, the city grew and so did its immediate surroundings. The initial temple became too small for the demand it had to satisfy, and therefore a larger building is built next to it for that purpose. In a third stage, a hall, classrooms and other facilities were built. Faced with such growth, the small initial temple started to house toilets for the whole complex, degrading its symbolism and history.
The KC Apartment was designed for two sisters, offering a warm and sophisticated space for everyday life. In addition to two suites for the residents, the apartment offers one more suite for their parents, an intimate living room, a living and dining room, office, kitchen and service area. The clients’ style was implemented all throughout the design, providing the project with elegance and a touch of romanticism; while simultaneously combined with the architect’s style – contemporary and clean.
The site is defined by a steep slope towards the privileged view of a forest that suggested a vertical organization of the requested program. The ground floor – the entrance to the residence, slightly elevated above the street – is the middle level of the building. The lower floor houses the social area, the service block and the master bedroom. The upper floor houses the children’s bedrooms.
With a contemporary and sophisticated language, we seeked the creation of spaces that passed the message of personality and coziness, dialoguing with new ways of living and entertaining.
Focused on the interaction and contact with natural elements, the design has as its guideline the experience of the resident itself. A functional and elegant architecture, with a minimalist, but at the same time, affectionate feature.
AP Arquitetos was founded in 2010 and seeks to establish a contemporary architectural language, experimental and still focused on local and historical values. We understand architecture much more as a methodological process in which several professionals act together. With this vision we can reach new ideas and concepts that can be applied in a practical way and with a high degree of innovation and experimentalism. Our process works each project in a unique way, that is, with a “tailoring” thought. The firm has projects in several Brazilian cities besides Peru, Italy and the USA.
After years living in China and Switzerland, the owners of this home decided to settle in Londrina. This Brazilian and Portuguese / Swiss couple wanted to provide a quiet, tranquil home, in which to raise their two children, away from busy urban centers. With this in mind and after much searching, they chose a house close to both quality schools and other important community services.
Unfortunately, the house didn’t meet the family’s expectations so they decided to do a major renovation to both the internal and exterior areas of the home.
