Interior architect Aino Kavantera, and product and exhibition designer Federica Capitani, have designed the first Fin Noir exhibition, which took place at the “Passage du desir” gallery in Paris during SS12 Fashion Week (4-16 October).

The two designers met in 2005 whilst working at Marcel Wanders Studio in Amsterdam and have since collaborated on a number of design projects as well as worked on their own. Fin Noir is their most recent collaboration.

“Forest through the table” 5 place de la bataille de Stalingrad, Paris 10ème.

The project accommodates the headquarters of two companies in Paris – PONS and HUOT – with totally fifteen executives. Consequently the unit has seven individual rooms for each director and one open-space-office for the remaining eight clerks. In addition there is one (divisible) meeting-room, a common recreational room, a kitchen, rest rooms, and, at the special request of the patron, lush vegetation all over the main space.

The buildings of the cultural and community premises of Paris Diderot University fit into the undeveloped, southwest area of the Flour Market which was recently converted by Nicolas Michelin and Associates Agency. A break between the Flour Market and the new building is preserved. It respects the existing building and accentuates the slenderness of the tower.

Jardins de l’Arche in Paris, France by AWP

AWP, Office for Territorial Reconfiguration (Marc Armengaud, Matthias Armengaud, Alessandra Cianchetta), was named in July the general contractor for the landscaping of the public spaces and follies situated at the foot of the Grande Arche. The site, located near the future Arena 92 in the Jardins de l’Arche neighborhood, serves as a space for genuine interchange between La Défense and Seine-Arche. The urbanists at AWP are equally responsible for a guide plan for Defacto that will enhance the urban space of La Défense’s business district.

A wall with 3 curved surfaces was designed to softly wrap around itself at the center of the space on the ground and 1st floor of the existing building, built during the 18th century. Inside the building, customers can see the superposition of cheese selling spaces and degustation spaces through the holes in the walls, like trough a piece(space) of cheese cellar.

Re-structuring an old theatre of the 19th century in the heart of Paris to turn it into an interactive platform for 21st century music and arts poses a number of difficult problems. To sum them up we have conceived of a place that could cater to all the artistic activities of today, a place open to public visits but that was also a working studio where artists could actually create, produce and present.

  • Surface: 9.500 sqm, 5 levels open to the public and 2 private levels (where there are work spaces reserved to the artists). A total capacity of 1.400 peoples. The facade, the lobby and the historic foyer are originals (1862) and where restaurated. All other places were rebuild.
  • Big room: 300 seating places / 750 standing places, adjustable stage: multiple heights, configuration and surfaces; 46 independent screens spread out over the 4 sides of the room for total immersion of the audience.
  • Software used: a number of architectural and graphic design software programs, but for the most part the architects work with AutoCad
