The clients, a middle-aged couple, approached us with one definite request – they wanted to build a house with no stairs, a house that would be equally practical and enjoyable when they get old. The site offered no obvious clues – a flat piece of land in a second line of buildings, in a suburban part of the city of Wrocław, among disappearing traces of a rural past, surrounded by a chaotic mix of houses of all styles, materials and conditions.
An intimate and cozy housing estate in Mikołów located on the quiet outskirts of the city. The project includes twelve houses. The spatial arrangement is concentrated along the internal access road, the buildings contrast with the adjacent wall of the forest Due to the size of the plot, its geometric shape and inclination, and location in relation to the world directions the houses are grouped in a system similar to twin buildings – buildings are congruent to each other within the plot – yet because of the plot shape and sun exposure, congruent buildings are not identical.
The respective space lies in a post-industrial quarter situated in the center of Gliwice.
The compact space, just 20 m2, has housed numerous endeavors, including an antique shop and porter’s office. The main entrance can be found inside the gateway.
The most valuable ideas are created not in the office desk, but far from it. They need inspiration, air and coincidence. The purpose of project was to make friendly space. Good quality of working space is one of the factors which cause that the life is well spend. If we are happy at work, then it’s effects would be better and more useful for everyone. We don’t want to use the term “free time” as that time after work as we do not agree that time spent at work is the one without freedom. We all should work with satisfaction and pleasure from what we are doing.
The house is located in a quiet district in the south of Katowice. There was an orchard with apple trees on the existing plot. The neighboring building and zoning plan imposed pitched roof geometry.
The building is located along the road to cut off private garden from the street. The gable windowless walls are as close as possible to the neighboring plots. Main black solid with pitched roof, is fully clad with slate. The distinctive frontal diagonal line of the hood is lowering in accordance with lowered bedroom’s floor above the garage.
Located on a scarp near the beautiful Wulpinski lake, in the town of Sila is a modern single family house with an area of 450m. Embedded in the ground, beautifully integrated with the amazing landscape of Warmia-Mazury with a huge, entirely covered by grass patio located on the roof, wide windows overlooking the lake, three bedrooms, kitchenette, two bathrooms, and a garage. It is the perfect place to relax, and live in harmony with the nature. It has been designed for a private investor from Olsztyn. It’s an all year round house, made of bricks, plastered in white, thus gaining lightness and space.
The Park’s entrances are situated in a close vicinity to parking lots and public transportation stops where tourists start their visit to the Tatra Mountains National Park. They incorporate checkout desks, a tourist information (combined with a small bookshop), information boards, communications routes, resting spots, and toilets. The current buildings are more than a dozen years old, built in the Zakopane architectural style. They do not meet the requirements needed to serve touristic traffic. On the Park’s premises there are 17 such entrances, of different sizes. The competition work comprises the design of two of such entrances, Białego Valley (smaller) and Kościeliska Valley (of higher capacity), with the possibility of adapting them for the rest of the entrances.
The brief called for design proposals to maximise the flexibility of the 1976-designed theatre for a variety of performances on the stage, and to add a new roof to enclose both the stage and the audience. The underside of the roof, which covers the stage and front of auditorium, will enhance and project the natural acoustic for orchestral events.
The Katowice International Conference Centre project situated nearby the Spodek arena erected in 1962 posed a challenge in both urban planning and architectural terms.
