Thursday, June 16th, 2022

Article source: DC.AD, Duarte Caldas

Equador 804 Apartment is a renovation project located in Cascais, covering approximately 33m2, aimed at income generation through short-term rental.

The proposed functional program included a kitchen and a bedroom, in open-space format, a bathroom, and also the use of the outdoor balcony as a living space. As this is a relatively small area, the first step of the intervention involved in the elimination of all non-structural elements and walls, except those configuring the existing kitchen and bathroom, releasing the entire spaciousness of the apartment.

House Marinha-Grande in Portugal by CONTAMINAR Arquitectos

Monday, May 2nd, 2022

Article source: CONTAMINAR Arquitectos

I get in the car, turn the keys, listen to the noisy symphony coming from the engine and hit the road to reach my house in the town of Amieira, next to Marinha Grande, land of glass and the mold industry in Portugal.

Arriving at the desired address, after passing through the small family industries and between the pine forest of Leiria and the small town of Amieira, with some isolated and disordered houses, I see amidst the green vegetation, at the bottom of the plot, the house, which has an industrial image, which refers to the industrial pavilions in Marinha Grande, but at the same time conveys the comfort, scale and image of a contemporary dwelling. A large and voluminous metallic canopy, black and dynamic, draws the contours of the house and rests on a glass box that makes it levitate.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2022

Article source: Atelier JQTS

The project consists in converting an industrial warehouse into a space with two main uses: 1) temporary accommodation specifically conceived for groups of people 2) organisation and promotion of events (cultural, social, marketing, etc.).

The initial strategy was to try to combine these two realities by creating a set of common areas for the living space with strong character and materiality in order to serve both situations.

House in Sta Joana, Portugal by NU.MA, architects

Monday, April 4th, 2022

Article source: NU.MA, architects

In a street marked by a vast set of housings for the working class, the sense of repetition and systematization of the construction process is a strong characteristic of this street. We wanted to follow the same idea … repetition/systematization.

The whole proposal started from a morphological condition of the terrain. This condition influenced, the programmatic and volumetric shape of the building. In terms of location, the building is developed longitudinally and adapts itself to the terrain shape, creating and defining its boundaries.

Galvão Houses in Lisboa, Portugal by Atelier Cais

Thursday, March 31st, 2022

Article source: Atelier Cais

The existing plot as half of a block facing two streets and a square, included three buildings with different uses, volumetries and facade tiles.

The initial purpose of the project was the requalification of the two existing 1 story houses and the total demolition of the warehouse building in the North corner of the complex, fully degraded. The intended program is for 4 autonomous houses.

The project consists  in the vertical extension of the South corner house (by increasing an upper floor and attic) and the vertical and horizontal expansion of the “vinhos e tabacos” building, not only by increasing an upper floor and attic, but also by increasing its footprint area with a new construction in the North warehouse. The new construction was treated as part of the existing “wines and tobaccos” building.

Casas do Capitão in Guimarães, Portugal by merooficina

Monday, March 14th, 2022

Article source: merooficina

The project Casas do Capitão was triggered by the will to regenerate a city plot located on Guimarães’ historical center edge. This small parcel, as most of the neighboring ones, was defined by a succession of constructions that, over the years, occupied all the available space.

The intervention aimed to adapt this urban space to new ways of life, relieving it from the more precarious buildings and valuing the existing elements, such as the large XIX century building. This main building was the starting point and the matrix for the two new constructions that defined the plot: an extension at the ground level and a new commercial building on the north side.

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022

Article source: Sequeira Dias Arquitectos

The interior design proposal was developed with a desire to provide the ideal conditions for a distinct and elevated experience through aesthetics and contemporaneity, all while meeting the program’s requirements as listed by the client.

The restaurant’s concept is directly connected to the cuisine that the space proposes to offer, and as a result, the interior architecture seeks to be symbiotic with the gastronomic menu and its far-eastern Japanese nature.
