Monday, March 6th, 2023

Article source: CLOU architects

CLOU architects was commissioned by Vanke to design the fourth floor atrium of the newly opened Future City Mall in Qingdao. Located in Qingdao’s northern district, Vanke Future City is a brand-new shopping and leisure destination devoted to the mingling of aesthetics, creativity and social experiences, hoping to bring a fresh vitality to Qingdao’s old town and its surroundings.

The crux of the design challenge was to create an iconic social space, tempting customers to the upper levels of the mall, and energizing its retail and dining areas. This led to the concept of an immersive jungle garden.

Qingdao Wanda Victoria Bay Xifeng Bridge in China, Landscape Design by PT Landscape

Sunday, May 13th, 2018

Article source: PT Landscape

The concept of Xifeng Bridge is the spread-open wings of a phoenix, which is an auspicious bird and a symbol of peace and harmony. The ancients believed that phoenix would fly over if the world is in peace and prosperity. The oracle of “Feng” is like the oracle of wind, meaning the omnipresent and spiritual power of wind.”Huang” is pronounced like the “Emperor” in Chinese, meaning the supreme power. Therefore, phoenix is also the symbol of Chinese imperial power, and is usually paired with dragon, which is a symbol of lucky and harmony.

BeanBar Café in Qingdao, China by Latitude Studio

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

Article source: Latitude Studio

Cafés, tearooms, dry cleaners, fast food restaurants and other urban spaces are taking on roles that historically belonged to our homes, from our living and dining rooms to our kitchens, bathrooms, and storage spaces. Nowadays, a café is a cozy place for friendship in the big city. It provides a space to share, and sell, a moment to complete our day. In this way, cafés are part of the modern city but also represent what they are replacing: our own home.
