This project was inspired by Brazil´s indian architecture, perfectely suited for the hot and humid climate where it stands, Angra dos Reis, one hour drive south of Rio de Janeiro .The roof acts as a big leaf that protects from the hot sun all the enclosed spaces of the house as the in-between open spaces, truly the most important ones . These in-between open spaces represent the essence of the design.

When looking at the creation of any new neighbourhood we need to identify qualities and clarify what its identity and attractiveness will be both for the city and for its inhabitants. For Porto Olympico we want to bring a new life to the area by creating a development which is turned inside out. Rather than making a simple series of towers with all the life on the interior, we have made a project which is defined by a thousand parks, balconies, and plateau’s of life and vitality.
International Architecture Competition for the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
„The project under consideration should be located in the bay of the city of Rio de Janeiro on the Cotonduba Island, which is the obligatory approach for aircraft landing and will comprise a vertical structure which will seek to become a symbol for those arriving in Rio, creating an image potent enough to enable Rio to triumph in its bid to host the summer Olympics in 2016. The challenge, therefore, consists of designing a observation tower which will become a symbol welcoming all those who visit Rio de Janeiro, whether they arrive by air or sea.“
The project is for the home of a young couple, in a terraced house constructed in the beginning of the 20th century, in Jardim Botanico, Rio de Janeiro, and aims at establishing harmony among the existing set, the interventions made, and the environment, preserving the guidelines of its historical heritage. The goal was to fulfill the needs of its future residents. The factory-hand terraced houses form a set of 8 houses with practically the same kind of occupation of the allotment [50%] and dimensions of [4.5m o- façade per 18m -depth]. It is a preserved area by the historical heritage, and definitions draw the guidelines for the project. Firstly, the volumetric analysis and characteristics of the existing set of houses should be maintained, formed by the main façade towards the street [preserving the proportions and existing voids], the roof in ceramic tile, and the internal façade [which can be altered for new interspaces, but preserving the original structure].
