Akurad law office in Roeselare, Belgium by Declerck – Daels, Architecten

Wednesday, September 16th, 2020

Article source: Declerck – Daels, Architecten

Akurad law office erected a unique and hybrid building in the small port of Roeselare, an industrial and busy area along the canal.

The project is an example of a sustainable re-use of an abandoned site.  The new office has the same footprint as the former warehouse.  The building consists of three playful volumes, stacked in different angles.  It is remarkable, refined and very uncommon compared to the industrial surrounding.  Both massive and light, open and intimate.

Article source: DDM ARCHITECTUUR & BHOOM

The client is an installation company for HVAC and industrial piping that has been experiencing accelerated growth in recent years. Their existing \”collection\” of company buildings in the center of Roeselare was no longer sufficient and they needed to move to a new location to allow further growth and to build an efficient and employee-friendly environment.

Every day, around 120 people work at Goddeeris for the installation of HVAC and piping. About 20 of them handle the head office while the others shuttle between the new headquarters and the different construction sites. The building program comprises of 850 m2 of office space for engineers, managers and project leaders plus social spaces for the entire team, a 1500m2 warehouse area for equipment delivery and storage and almost 1800m2 covered parking for commercial vehicles, big and small.

A spectacular before & after

The building is located in the city centre, where the offices and social housing apartments of the Mandel used to be. The building was converted into a residential building comprising 10 spacious apartments, 2 penthouses, 9 garages and a basement. The Boterbloem project tackles the challenge of combining top class architecture with the renovation of an apartment building, situated in an exclusive location in the centre of Roeselaere, and turn it into a beautiful, contemporary architectural concept.

House V at R [2012] in Roeselare, Belgium by BURO II & ARCHI+I

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014

Context

The farm used to consist of several buildings clustered around a residential section. Most farms in the Roeselare area consist of two volumes, situated either parallel or perpendicular to each other. The new home was embedded parallel to the barn. Positioning the home in an L-shape opposite the barn will define the residential section a superior way and strengthen the character of the space. The residential section lies at the heart of the site and acts like a turntable for all internal circulation.

A key project in the heart of the Belgian city of Roeselare is the renewal of the inner-city nucleus formed by Noordstraat, Ooststraat and Henri Horriestraat. The city centre will be structurally strengthened by enlarging a modern centre of knowledge and learning, developing additional commercial premises and building new homes. The renewal project is situated right in the centre of the city. It is an integral part of the main shopping precinct that stretches between the Saint Michael Church and the Grote Markt (market square) on the one hand and the railway station on the other.
