The beneficiaries of this apartment are a young couple, who wanted their first home to be a special place. He likes neutral tones, simplicity and natural materials. She prefers French-style colors and influences. We have combined all these elements so that the result is to everyone’s liking.
M house represents in our office a norm in practice discipline across all building stages and the crucial necessity of a good relationship with the client. Its story begins with an existing house, part of a characteristic residential complex of the early 2000s in our country, situated on the border between Voluntari City and Baneasa airport, and came with a clear task: extending and adapting it to the new owner’s needs.
A negotiation between existing and proposal was made without lingering: the old gave in for the new, given the fact that it was lacking any valuable architectural elements and it had windows predominantly facing north.

The site’s location is on the outer strip of the city’s intra muros area of Cluj, an area best described as an architectural mélange of small historical houses with gardens and new and more expansive hotel and educational complexes. The new medical center occupies a small corner plot, between two streets with different hierarchies, and is replacing an existing ground floor house. At its eastern limit, hidden behind the gardens and houses, waves the course of the Water Mill’s Canal, designed since the 16th century to supply the water mills in the city. Unfortunately, on our plot it was covered to facilitate the extension of the annexes of the initially existing house, thus becoming invisible to passers-by on the secondary street.
Stylish Black Lines Apartment is located in Bucharest, in a building finished in the beginning of 2020. It has two bedrooms : a master bedroom and an office that becomes the guest bedroom when needed. The initial partition was modified a little bit, because we wanted to create an open-space between the kitchen and the living room.
Day area
The black metallic elements, the well defined lines, the insertion of hard wood parts all around the furniture and the color accents found mainly in the upholstered objects, create all together a stylish industrial atmosphere inside this new apartment.
The project proposes a house built and organized around a central core. If, most of the times, this central core consists of the hearth, this time, in the centre of the house is the library that covers the central wall on two levels and the staircase. There are two elements on either side of a central wall, which together urge ascension, both physical and spiritual.
The project came as a challenge for us, due to the fact that the intervention took place on an already completed construction, which was 10 years old.
At first glance, the shape of the house was quite expressive but, unfortunately, through a unitary treatment of the facades, the important elements were not highlighted, which is why we considered that by applying decorative plaster in different colors on the faces of the volumes we would create a more dynamic effect.

How to produce architecture in a city described by its destructions, where the population has so long been diminished in its power of memory and its individuality?
In this situation of discontinuity, it is a question of awakening the gaze: Convene history as a topical news. It’s a strong act, a political act that the French – Lebanese architecture firm YTAA proposes to question.
From a 1930s villa, typical of Bucharest’s fabric, the architect Youssef Tohme took over, not only the architectural function, but the symbolic and urban function as well. Erected on a glazed base, and thus open to the public, the reproduced house simultaneously becomes a museum piece and a shout to the city, to confrontation, to culture.
The lavish property lays in a Transylvanian mountain village among households spread along valley roads and up on mild hills. The main built volume, a horizontally spread topography feature partially masked by a sloping green roof and a mineral gabion wall cladding. Two traditional barn-like outgrowths articulate the construction. The required interior area is quite impressive, especially compared to the modest, traditional local households nearby. Shapes and materials were chosen to blend the expansive building in the special scenery. The solar layout, building energetics concepts has been subordinated to the panorama, opening towards North.
the apartment house proposed here lays in one of the representative areas of bucharest, in an area where “the built” is mostly residential and where the two lakes in the neighbourhood lead you towards a possible romantic atmosphere. the importance of the location makes necessary to approach the proposal from the perspective of a possible urban object “landmark”. in a residential theme context the materiality of the façade received a special meaning starting with the concept. thus, the texture coated on wood has the role of creating a sensation of “home”. the volumetry introduces the concept of prismatic compositional hybrid having the role of sugesting the multitude of intimate spaces as being “little houses” belonging to a “mother-house”. the general sensation created by the proposed concept bringing states of: relaxation, intimacy, integrating the perspectives of natural landscape, safety and mental comfort, could create the assumptions of a possible “home”.
