Article source: Paul de Ruiter Architects

In one of the oldest streets in Rotterdam we designed the renovation of a monumental townhouse. We transformed the former museum of Kralingen into a luxury home. While maintaining the existing framework of the villa, we completely restructured  the floor plans.  We wanted to adapt the villa in a way to meet the needs of users while retaining the original features.

Holy Smoke in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Article source: STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

Studio Modijefsky was invited to design the interior of Holy Smoke; a new Bar/Restaurant in a historic building on the corner of Tiendplein, Rotterdam.

Previously the building was divided into two commercial spaces; one of which was a cigar shop. As part of the recent renovation these spaces have been combined into one brighter space. With windows on all three sides, the space offers great visual connectivity with the square and the neighbourhood. Studio Modijefsky has used this quality to enhance the interior; the openness is reflected inside. The space has an orientation towards the street and towards the square; centrally positioned, the bar strengthens this concept. Around the bar, the rest of the space forms itself, consisting of an open space on the ground floor, a souterrain and an entresol area.

Informal cube in Rotterdam, the Netherlands by jvantspijker urbanism architecture research

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

Article source: jvantspijker urbanism architecture research

Jvantspijker Architects have designed a sturdy cube shaped house in the centre of Rotterdam. With its spatial 3-dimensional lay-out the building allows a modern family to meet the paradoxical demands of urban life: The house provides community as well as privacy to its inhabitants and it is both connected to and sheltered from the street and the surrounding city. The exterior of plain white bricks, encases a plan organized by split-level sections. The house is an urban monolith, albeit one glowing with interior life.

Markthal Rotterdam in The Netherlands by MVRDV

Sunday, August 6th, 2017

Article source: MVRDV

The Market Hall is a sustainable combination of food, leisure, living and parking, fully integrated to celebrate and enhance the synergetic possibilities of the different functions. A secure, covered square emerges beneath an arc, conceived as an inversion of a typical market square and its surrounding buildings. During the day it serves as central market hall, after hours the hall becomes an enormous, covered, well lit public space.

Feyenoord City in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by OMA

Friday, June 2nd, 2017

Article source: OMA

A historically significant stadium due to its distinctive design, with the oval stands positioned close to the pitch so audience and players are in intimate proximity, De Kuip is known for its unique and intense atmosphere. Built 80 years ago, the current stadium of Rotterdam-based football club Feyenoord no longer fulfills modern demands. To facilitate the football club’s expanding ambitions both in the national and European football leagues, multiple plans for a new and renovated stadium have been made and presented over the past decade, none of which received final approval. In 2016, Operatie NL, OMA and Feyenoord proposed a different approach: the construction of a new stadium combined with the development of the surrounding neighborhood.
