Sunday, August 2nd, 2015

Article source: Ibelings van Tilburg architecten

A new residential building up to 70 metres in height and including 114 apartments is added to the existing Ter Meulen shopping building in Rotterdam. This is an unusual project as the new building literally rests on the columns and foundations of the  existing structure. The only additions are a pair of concrete lift shafts which also provide stability.

Sunday, July 12th, 2015

Article source: Mei architects and planners

After a very fast construction period of only two months a spectaculair new pavilion shines in the heart of Rotterdam. Mei architects and planners designed this new McDonald’s pavilion on Coolsingel Rotterdam. The former kiosk was once voted the ugliest building in Rotterdam and no longer reflected the wishes and ambitions of either McDonald’s and the city of Rotterdam.

Article source: UArchitects

“How does a building looks like which is not used for half a year during the winter? “
During the winter it is closed, but when the sun arrives the building transforms. The arrival of the spring is visible in the building: screens move up, doors slide open and the flags wave into the air. The building reacts on the summer sun.

Cabrio Apartment in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by HUNK-design

Thursday, March 19th, 2015

Article source: HUNK-design

The transformation of a very common 19th century Rotterdam upstairs apartment into an unique city paradise.

The residents, Bart Cardinaal en Nadine Roos, had been residents at this address since their student time. With the arrival of their daughter the rented apartment didn’t suffice any more and the residents were on the look out for a home with a (roof)garden. Then the opportunity came along to buy the house for a very good price and it also turned out that it was possible to rebuild the house drastically. As they have their own architectural and design firm, HUNK-design, this became the start of the transformation.

Large budgets and enormous amounts of energy are spent on the upgrading of major Dutch railway stations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Rotterdam.
