Team Paul de Vroom + Sputnik completes apartment complex in Moscow.
In Wellton Park, a district in Moscow with a very high building density, the Dutch architecture firm Team Paul de Vroom + Sputnik has completed two apartment buildings with outspoken brick facades.
When the client requested “Dutch” architecture, the architects let themselves to be inspired by the Amsterdam School style of the early 1900’s, and re-invent it for a contemporary high-rise design.
The project ‘Dutch House’ is part of the re-development of District 75, situated in the western part of Moscow. Renamed Wellton Park, the district has been transformed by Russian construction-industrial company KROST, over a period of 20 years, into a luxury residential area with a very high density and a carefully landscaped ground level. Amidst the white and light grey apartment buildings, Dutch House catches the eye with its outstanding red brick colour. The two buildings with a height of 75 and 65 metres, contain 360 apartments on top of a two-layered underground parking.
The Palace of Culture was built in 1982, the standard project was developed by the Design Institute commissioned by the Tourism Council. The Palace of Culture is a striking example of the Brezhnev era architecture: the area of the building is about 12 thousand meters and since construction, it has never been renovated. The reconstruction lasted six months and amounted to approximately 300 million rubles.
The rectangular shape of the building is made in the style of modernist architecture: it houses a cinema and concert and lecture halls, dance halls, recreation areas, educational spaces, exhibition spaces, a chess club and a library.
Nude. Coffee & Wine Bar is a small family establishment located in a 1930s residential building in the picturesque heart of Moscow.
The design was informed by the materiality of the existing space. Multiple layers of plaster and paint had been partially chipped away to reveal original brick walls. This beautiful existing texture inspired the use of pared back, ascetic materials such as concrete and wood, with small brass accents and a bold black and white tile pattern.
The space is divided between an open kitchen and dining area, with a large bar top acting as an intermediary, at which visitors can eat and follow the cooking process.
The district of Moscow where Culinary is found is not a very famous one. The room itself is lost among tall apartment buildings and business centers. But it was chosen not accidently – having tall tape glazing, unusual configuration and noble pillars of a deep wine, this room has its special Sharm.
Young studio SHOO (became known with Abugosh project, Moscow) under the management of Shushana Khachatrian took up the works on internal space architecture and design of Culinary.
The villa as an architectural category has always been linked to a particular sort of escapism: the upper class of society, being tired of urban bustle, preferred a solitary yet luxurious way of living in natural environment to densely populated and noisy city. This very essence of villa remains unaltered despite several style changes, developing principles of design and introduction of mind-blowing paradigms such as modernist movement. ‘Tochka na karte’ (Russian for ‘a point on the map’) living room pavilion enters into a dialogue with the concept of villa and opposes the ideas of accessibility, equality and openness to the elitist, private and isolated character of modernist glass house villa which was taken as an aesthetic model for the project. Denying the vertical hierarchy, the space can be described as highly welcoming and inclusive for everyone who enters it. At the same time the pavilion inherits the modernist desire to set a new standard of life and offers a refreshed understanding of spending the leisure time, being outside of the city and reestablishes the link between the architecture and the context of its existence.
This is a big coastal development project for the historic Sevkabel factory (Siemens & Halske), situated on Vasilyevsky Island. The site is located in an industrial district, placed right between the street (Kozhewennaya linia) and the Gulf of Finland. Old red-brick 19-th century buildings of the Siemens & Halske manufactory coexist with and industrial facilities of the 70s of the 20th century on the same site.
These buildings are located in different Coordinate grids of the brick and concrete buildings differ from each other, and that diference creates complex, trapezoidal spaces between them. Dealing with an existing environment, we focused our efforts on the renovation and adaptation of existing buildings, as well as on the preservation of the industrial genius loci. This approach allowed us to emphasize the existing features of the site, including some of the industrial artefacts.
Kashirskaya Plaza features a multitude of public amenities, conveniently blending retail, fitness, cinema, entertainment, food & beverage, and a supermarket. The result is a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood destination that celebrates its existing natural surroundings, including an adjacent public park. Organic elements are drawn into the project to create a place of comfort and leisure, locally inspired and linked to its environment. Connections to the natural world are also seen throughout the interior of the project. Four main atriums are designed thematically to link with the natural elements of water, air, fire, and earth.
The main task was to create a stylish interesting living place for periodic residence.
