This project is a medical facility for general medical care based on the concept of “examining the community”.

By creating a cafe-like community interaction room and a park-like garden that can also be used for vegetable garden therapy, the aim was to create a new medical facility open to all, where people can gather and stay for purposes other than treatment.

There are no fixtures in the store and everything placed is a commodity.

Higashimatsuyama House in Saitama, Japan by Kohei kudo & Associates

Thursday, May 9th, 2019

Article source: Kohei kudo & Associates

The client’s family has been living in the beautiful site surrounded by nature for generations for over 300 years. The client couple lived in the “main house” built two generations ago and an “annex” built by them, going back and forth between those two separate buildings. They wanted to have a new style of living so that they could have a space to invite their daughter’s family and grandchildren. I planned this extension and restoration to make it feasible for its rich heritage to pass on to the next generation while leaving their favorite “annex”.

The Site and the Client’s Brief

The 115.8 m2 site sits along a busy industrial street, and the program was to rebuild the existing steel structured warehouse / office building.

Being adjacent to a wide street, the advantages of this site were accessibility with an ease of loading and unloading, quantity and size wise, the merchandize they deal in and the site also being a corner site, the building would stand out from the surroundings. On the other hand, the disadvantages were the continuous noise during the day, together with the tremors caused by heavy traffic and also the extremely week ground strength.

Hopscotch House in Saitama, Japan by Hideyuki Hiramoto

Sunday, October 28th, 2018

Article source: Hideyuki Hiramoto

This family who had lived individually decided to live together under one roof. In this project I tried to design a space that allowed these people who were used to living alone build an agreeable friendship by keeping a moderate distance from each other.

Caring for ease of access, a one-story house was requested. I thought hard about how to bring light and wind into the center of the house.

I divided the building into parts, each with their own function, and placed them in a layout “1+2+1+2+1” like Hopscotch game. By doing this, I led the house to the following solutions;

House by Rafter 2 in Saitama, Japan by Hiroki Tominaga – Atelier

Tuesday, October 16th, 2018

Article source: Hiroki Tominaga – Atelier

This is apartment renovation project which is 83㎡ for parents and two kids. In this project we piled up locally grown cedar solid woods to make kitchen unit and kids loft unit. Around this units kids can go round now, and in the future it can be divided into 2 kids’ rooms and living room. As this room is on the 10th floor of the apartment building, we had to lift up 4㎥ rafter woods by EV, so we cut all timbers short to put on EV. And we designed just how to pile up 60×45 rafter woods to make shelf or kids lofts.

There are also many C.psifera wood in Saitama, so we line up these woods and tack with wood cement board by nails behind to make walls.

Vida in Saitama, Japan by studioLOOP

Tuesday, July 11th, 2017

Article source: studioLOOP

This is a project for husband, wife, and 2 children. Vida is a house located in Saitama, Japan. The site is a high-residential area and has a neighboring house in the east and the north. The south is built with shops across narrow streets whereas rich tea gardens are spreading in the west. Since it is a densely populated area, we derived firstly to the maximum possible volume from the volume ratio and the north side shaded line which are decided by law. In order to cope with environmental burdens while taking in the scenery, we planned living, dining, and kitchen with a large opening using Low-E glass on the second floor. The floor was a one-room with all its floor space, a storage space full of ceiling in the north and south, and a dry area that was accentuated on the exterior as part of the south. In addition to the entrance that jumped out black on the first floor, the bedroom and the utilities are compactly summarized. The house which the appearance is simple as well as incorporated privacy and maximize the landscape, gives to the town accented.

Hasshoden-Charnel House in Saitama, Japan by Love Architecture Inc.

Opens the temple to community as a place to interact with “life”

In recent years, the decay of local communities due to urbanization has changed the Japanese sense of religion including ancestor worship, weakening the “Jidan” (system where commoners had to register with a temple to prove their Buddhist faith) which is the financial basis of many temples in Japan. Charnel house, which is a new style of grave that appeared as though it responded to the trend of the contemporary times, is different from the graveyard passed down from generation to generation and does not follow the traditional Jidan system.
