Offset House in Sao Paulo, Brazil by Shieh Arquitetos Associados

Saturday, February 23rd, 2013

Article source: Shieh Arquitetos Associados

The house is a direct result of the site’s complicated geometry. In plan, perimetral lines are given by the highest possible occupation of the property, discounting setbacks (restrained either by municipal legislation, or by the neighborhood regulation). Thus the nickname Offset House: a house that is the reflection of the sides of the lot.

Plot 40 House in São Paulo, Brazil by Tacoa Arquitetos

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

Article source: Tacoa Arquitetos

The São Roque residence was designed based on two constraints: it should take full advantage of the southern view of the lot with an average slope of twenty percent, and be a single-floor dwelling. As a site for the house and the immediate yard, a thirty by thirty meter area was leveled to a height of three meters below the highest point of the lot, based on a calculation of equal amounts of excavation and landfill, using retaining walls reinforced with geo-grids.

Livraria Da Vila in São Paulo, Brazil by Isay Weinfeld

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

Article source: Isay Weinfeld

The Livraria da Vila is the result of the refurbishment of a two-story house, built on a very narrow plot in São Paulo.

From start, it was clear an open plan was needed, as to better arrange products and circulation. For that reason, significant structural alterations were performed to the existing building, such as the incorporation of metal parts that would make it possible to displace the pillars to the outer sections of the building, and reinforce its foundations.

Cobogó House in São Paulo, Brazil by Studio mk27

Sunday, July 8th, 2012

Article source: Studio mk27

The light of the abundant tropical Sun falls on the white volume of the top floor of the house, penetrating the holes of the hollowed elements and covering the floor of the interior space. Thus, the design of spatialized lace is formed from the shadows and solar rays. The effect is multiplied throughout the ambient, making a construction from the light itself. Throughout the days, throughout the months, the hollowed-out elements take on different forms with the incidence of the sun; at night, this effect once again is transformed; in a continuous process of metamorphosis, its form changes from the light.

Ipês House in são paulo ,sp.brazil by studio mk27

Saturday, July 7th, 2012

Article source: studio mk27

Ten years ago, when StudioMK27 tried to do a project using exposed concrete, many builders said that this was practically impossible. Yeah, Right – Brazil that has a vast modern tradition in the use of raw concrete? During a determinate period, in the 90´s, the use of the material declined sharply, restricted to the few architects that used it experimentally e sporadically, without fixing a constructive know-how.

V4 House in Sao Paulo, Brazil by Studio mk27

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Studio mk27

With each new project contemporary architecture is forced to optimize spaces and use the maximum of each square meter of the site.  V4 House is a rare anti-example.   Its occupation of the land is very far from the maximum coefficient.  Laws allow for much larger constructions. The solution adopted, however, dialogues with the dimension of the site, formulating an adequate relation between the scale of the construction and the site.
