Dogok Maximum in Seoul, Korea by Moon Hoon

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: Moon Hoon

It reflects the client’s personality in a frank manner. Considering that the client, who had dreamt all kinds of mysterious dreams only to overcome them while living in a house built on a rock of mystical forces at a high area of Gangbuk, Seoul, purchased the plot of a fortuneteller and a shaman beside a tall wall in Gangnam, this is a world that must be full of many unexplainable things. In contemporary terms, this building would be considered a mixed-use narrow house, combining a basement studio for the client’s son, a photographer, a reception area, as well as a residence for mother and son that has been equipped with a compact elevator to account for the weakened joints of the elderly.

Moai Building in Seoul, Korea by L’eau Design

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: L’eau Design

Easter Island has almost been erased from history as it has no clear documentation of its past. Mysterious Moai statues are the only evidence of civilization. I gained a similar impression of Samjeon-dong, Seoul. Modern Moai at Samjeon-dong began with the consideration of a symbiotic structure for a city, including housing created by stacking commercial facilities and residential units on the everyday cultural ground.

Cafe SAPOON SAPOON in Seoul, South Korea by Betwin Space Design

Thursday, November 10th, 2016

Article source: Betwin Space Design

“Two years for gathering energy of the earth with the sounds of water, wind and human footstep, and six years for looking after ginseng. Six-year-old Red Ginseng nourished by the devotion of KGC(Korea Ginseng Corporation) for eight years. ”Opened on the first floor of KT&G (Korea Tobacco & Ginseng Corporation) Tower last August, Café Sapoon Sapoon expresses the advertising copy of Cheong-Kwan-Jang implicatively. Sapoon Sapoon is a compound word of Saponin, main ingredient of red ginseng, and Spoon, a tool to deliver taste and nutriment of food. As Sapoon also means ‘a figure of light and careful step’ and ‘light and refreshing state of body and mind’ in pure Korean word, people can feel refreshing scenery with light beverage. Sapoon Sapoon is a casual space created by KGC in order to be free from the perception, ‘Red ginseng is nothing but health functional food’, while keeping credibility of company and its quality-first spirit. Betwin Space Design grafted traditional ideology of Cheong-Kwan-Jang on this café modernly.

SM Town in Seoul, Korea by Yong Ju Lee, Steven Chang, Kyungsun Lee

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

Article source: Yong Ju Lee

Since it is the first branch of SM Town and a flagship store, a future-oriented image was depicted on the facade. It is the first case where the patterns of the Celebrity Shop “SUM” are applied for the first time. A unique idea that can help raise awareness of the brand was needed. As such, many thoughts were given to the details and design, including the size of the pattern, the space in between, selection of material and the location of the artists’ names of SM on the facade.

Sillim-dong Share House in Seoul, South Korea by JYA-RCHITECTS

Thursday, August 4th, 2016

Article source: JYA-RCHITECTS

Sodam-Sodam is a share house.

The very first question we asked ourselves about this project was: “what is the most unique charm of a share house in today’s housing reality?”

The answer was simple: nicely designed and spacious spaces such as a kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom, all of which individuals may not be able to afford or dream of—at least in a crowded and expensive city like Seoul.

Paradise City in Seoul, South Korea by MVRDV

Friday, July 29th, 2016

Article source: MVRDV

MVRDV have designed Paradise City, a 9,800m2 entertainment plaza which sits within a larger tourist hub just 10 minutes from Incheon Airport in Seoul. Two buildings shape a retail complex and a nightclub within fluid, yet monolithic, forms. Each of the buildings takes its profile from its surrounding family, becoming a concrete casting of the facades that look onto them. The square, marked by a giant golden spot, becomes a beacon to those flying into the city. The project is being undertaken in partnership with Gansam Architects who also designed the wider masterplan of the complex. Construction is envisaged to begin in September 2016 and to be completed by 2018.
