The Poetics of Slow Office Space in Shanghai, China by Muxin Design and Research

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Article source: Sunshine PR

Indeed, the images I want to examine are the quite simple images of felicitous space. In this orientation, these investigations would deserve to be called topophilia.

Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

The politics of space, as advocated tirelessly by Lefebvre, is materialized as ubiquitous nets of power relations, rending all the office spaces a colosseum of power.

OnCube in Shanghai, China by gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

Friday, January 6th, 2017

Article source: gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

gmp completes new office complex in China

The OnCube office complex has been completed on the industrial site of the Caohejing company in Shanghai to plans by the architects practice von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The design of the new building has been derived from the basic theme of a square – both in its outer appearance and in its details and landscaping. The strictly geometric double grid of the facade provides a sophisticated visual three-dimensional effect. This gives the solid office block lightness and, within its heterogeneous surroundings, makes it into a landmark that is conspicuous in its precision.

The library proposal entitled “Library as Home” envisions a library that feels like a large house for all, with a rich variety of environments that Shanghai’s citizens could appropriate as their own. As such, our design is inspired by the intimate connections between people, media and nature in libraries of the ancient world.

Tribeca in Shanghai, China by Linehouse

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016

Article source: Linehouse

Located in Jing’an, Shanghai on a tree lined street, Tribeca is a New York style gastro pub. The interior has a lightness and a freshness, which is a departure from the surrounding dark and industrial bars and restaurants.

Linehouse wanted to create a strong distinction between the existing and the new; a white datum was inserted into the space which operates as a shelf for display at high level and wraps the bar with a perimeter of shadowless bulbs suspended below. This new insertion contrasts to the existing concrete shell, which was left in its raw state.

Veranda in Shanghai, China by tf Architecture + ppas

Saturday, September 24th, 2016

Article source: tf Architecture

According to an ambitious plan, the Jinshan Modern Agricultural Park, located on the southwestern outskirts of Shanghai, is being transformed into a suburban park with composite functions. Enhancement of the public space in the core area of the park is the pilot project for initiating this transformation. In the conception of design, the veranda, an essential element in traditional Chinese gardening, has been selected as the theme of the design. In the park, a veranda extending in the east–west direction links up several isolated agricultural tourism projects on the north side of the freeway. This veranda will be expanded farther westward and will pass through the eastern landscape mound to be integrated with other tourism projects towards the south via a pedestrian bridge. The landscape mound on the south side of the veranda will isolate the park from the noise and sight of the freeway, and the freeway-facing side of the park, together with the veranda, will form an extended earthscape, thereby ensuring high identifiability along the freeway line.

Office Reconstruction in Shanghai, China by Muxin Design

Wednesday, September 7th, 2016

Article source: Sunshine PR

This project is to reconstruct an office in a high-rise building, the original space is in inadequate streamlined layout with multiple irregular shapes and dead space, and the overall utilization rate is low. The client wants the designers transform his office into a place where his staff can take a breath of nature behind the reinforced concrete walls. To this end, the designers abandoned the idea of traditional cubilces, and instead, they lined desks and bookshelves in curved shape alongside the walls and ceiling and moved the “forest” into the office, making it an open space with natural vitality.
