Leading urban design and architecture practice Farrells has unveiled its recently completed One Excellence development, in the heart of Shenzhen’s new Qianhai district and China’s Greater Bay Area. The project totals 757,000m2 and sets a global precedent for future mixed use, high-density urbanism – with social and green space at its heart.
Central to the scheme are the multi-level streetscapes which create lively interplays between different functions to generate vibrant retail spaces. Farrells’s design, which interlocks the towers and streetscapes is conceived as an evolution from the imposing shopping malls and isolated towers that have dominated Shenzhen’s urbanism throughout its initial decades of growth. Green spaces, metro links and multi-level circulation routes weave seamlessly into the pedestrian networks that connect the wider Qianhai district.
Nowadays, more and more clients, no matter how their scales are, intend to highlight their own unique features. In many cases, they provide detailed requests and many key aspects of the design concepts. Our job, based on these requests and concepts, is to discover the individual feature of each scenario and showcase the core of each brand owned by our clients.
This era embraces integration between design and art, work and life, beauty and practicality. Traditional boundaries and rules are broken, and lifestyle keeps evolving. A Boundless and Ideal Life Experience Center at CCD Headquarters was created under such context. It sits on 48F of a high rise in Shenzhen a key part of the Greater Bay Area. By combining a playful spirit of exploration with technological elements, the project shows a creative and fantastic image.

The new DOE Store is located in UpperHills, a hillside commercial center in Futian District in Shenzhen. The original concept of the project is to lead nature into interior space. Based on the concept, the design develops different dialogues between the store and the exterior space. The continuous metal floor covered from exterior to interior creates connection between the store and the street. And the open facade design of the store not only shares its interior space with the city, but also welcomes the scene from the street. Different functional spaces like cafe, retail area and rest area are designed as boxes with different sizes. When people are walking in the store, they will get richer experience like walking on the street than just being indoors. The application of different materials such as metal, wood and brick not only reflects the richness and the embracement of city life, but also reflects DOE Culture.
Highland Star Chef Restaurant is located on the top floor of Yanhan Highland, a multi-quality space and artistic life landmark in urban nature. Which is located in the overseas Chinese town (OCT) Creative Park, Nanshan District, Shenzhen City, with Yanhan mountain in the West and urban landscape in the East. The project has a beautiful natural environment, like a quite autumn flavor. Surrounded by dense woods and stones, the project stands in front of the mountain, which seems to be out of the hustle and bustle of the city for a moment. We want to create a place where we can enjoy food and various social gatherings by integrating the original natural environment, and the project shows the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
MeeHotel is a new urban resort hotel in the city of Shenzhen, China aims to give business travelers a peaceful state. The project location is called “Bamboo Forest”, so we naturally generate our story from this name.
Starting from the lobby space, bamboo was selected as the key material to let customers enter the lobby space and greeted by sophisticated light and shadow effect on the main wall. Various on-site tests & experiments with traditional bamboo weaver were done to create full height screens to define reception and lobby lounge area. Pitched roof ceiling and natural diatom mud finished walls overlay by articulated light and shadow effects provide a minimal and leisure experience for the entire space.
