They dance slowly over one day.

They dance slowly like a Noh performance.

Especially in Japan, the massive earthquake hit this country land with the huge tsunami so much that considerable damage and profound sorrow came to us. MoNo had the opportunity to join the illumination event “KusatsuMachiakariYumeakariHanaakari – on autumnal Kusatsu road with sensory gratification”, which got over 30 thousands visitors. Space for Prayer in Shiga, Japan by FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Article source: FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects

This little place of worship is planned in a room in a building which is in an area that is currently under development. In the bible, you can find lots about the contrast of darkness and light. For example, “light shines in darkness” “God created light. God separates light and darkness” I wanted to create a space of prayer where inspired by words of the bible.

This is a residential area as well an industrial area. It is also a popular drinking area where many bars and restaurants for such common people are scattered. There is a highway interchange nearby the town. The shape of the lot is a sharp triangle which is unusual for building a house.

Ordinary House in Shiga, Japan by FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Article source: FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects

This is a house which is built in new residential area. The area has no special character and most of the houses are built by house builders. When I face to a situation like this, whether I like it or not, I am made to think about it. My question is… “Do most of people want to have nothing special, just an ordinary house in an ordinary land? My answer is in this house. As an architect this is my solution to a social situation like this. Externally the house appears as a simple volume with prefabricated windows.

N-HOUSE in Otsu, Shiga, Japan by TOFU

Friday, February 11th, 2011

This residence is located in villa subdivision areas in Otsu, Shiga, Japan. There are  rich natural environments with Lake Biwa in thesoutheast and Mount Hira in the northwest,so in the first stage,we have decided to use cedar panels as exterior materials. The exterior wall is colored with three colors and attached gradation patterns, therefore the abstract wood texture comes and gives us a massive impression. As Forest side,we have arranged a semi-outdoor terrace inside,so that there could have an coherent exterior space.
