Hotel Reception on the Ridge in Shizuoka, Japan by Takashige Yamashita Office

Saturday, February 26th, 2022

Article source: Takashige Yamashita Office

Sitting on the hillside beside the street running towards Mountain Fuji from Gotemba, Shizuoka, the Reception annex greets visitors to hotel lodges spreading out on the wide landscape.

The area, called Takane, is part of a huge forest where a small stream is murmuring along with a very close and clear view of Mt. Fuji to the west. Despite its huge natural background, this site is still quite easy to access from the city center, located only 15-minute-drive away from the central area of Gotemba city and convenient to reach from the nearest highway interchange as well. The client has been planning to organize accommodation facilities in this area, and a main management annex was required to set up a welcome spot as an entrance to the entire project.

gré Square House in Shizuoka, Japan by suzuki architects

Thursday, June 14th, 2018

Article source: suzuki architects

This combined home and business sits on the skirts of Nihondaira, a hilly area just outside central Shizuoka City. The neighborhood is a mixture of large old farmhouses, tea fields, and new housing developments, with small shops nestled into the laid-back surroundings. The streets curve slightly as they climb gently toward the hills, as if they were built on top of the old paths between fields. They lead, too, to openings where Mt. Fuji suddenly comes into view. It is in just such a spot that this house is located.

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Article source: MOUNT FUJI ARCHITECTS STUDIO

Near the base of the Manazuru Peninsula, on a hilly topography that slopes toward the south, the site is located where the hill’s inclination eases to form a shoulder. Beyond the enclosing greenery composed mainly of broadleaf trees, the expanse of the Pacific Ocean quietly extends to the horizon. The client’s request was for a guesthouse for the family and friends to spend their weekends together.

House Wago in Shizuoka, Japan by msd-office

Tuesday, April 7th, 2015

Article source: msd-office

This residence stands in the suburbs of Hamamatsu, and was designed for a young couple with children. The building consists of a two stories high rectangular box with a meter deep balcony, which functions both as a semi-outdoor corridor connecting the rooms on the upper floor, and as a roof over the ground floor entrance porch and veranda. The 10m wide horizontal opening on the balcony wall made structurally free by use of cantilever, gives character to the outer appearance of the building. The building is situated on the northern side of an irregularly shaped land plot. In the double-height ceiling LDK, the large opening creates a sense of unity with the yard on the southern side, in addition to “borrowing” the forest on the south-western wide as part of the scenery. The open interior space was designed by extending dynamically both in the horizontal and the vertical direction.

Tanaka Clinic in Shizuoka, Japan by Akiyoshi Takagi & Associates

Thursday, November 27th, 2014

Article source: Akiyoshi Takagi & Associates

This orthopedic surgery clinic is located in the suburbs of a regional city.
The site is former farmland that faces the intersection of a major road. The area has been designated for controlled urbanization, and there are still numerous fields and greenery nearby.
We first chose to make the building a one-story structure that followed the intersection. This would help spread awareness of the clinic among passing drivers and people waiting at the traffic light, and would also give the neighboring agricultural land access to sunlight. Separating the entrance and exit from the intersection would make access by vehicle easy.
