Vila A is built near the forest above village Kostoľany. At the beginning it seemed as if such land can never inhabited – the hill oriented to the north with 5 meter elevation from the road, the south shadowed by neighboring house…
The concept is based on some kind of a shell protecting the body from the outside. It is oriented to the east with a view on the village and the church. The surface is made of tin while the interior is wooden.
How can a small bookshop compete within a network of firmly established booksellers? What can it offer to customers? How can it draw attention? Our aim was to create a flexible space that would not only sell books but would also be capable of facilitating various collateral events such as projections, readings, minor concerts, workshops, etc. Two focal points of the bookshop are placed at both ends of the longitudinal space. A checkout is next to the entrance and a coffee bar is on the opposite side on an original elevated gallery.

Otium is a Latin word meaning free time or vacation. A house which has been given such a name must be a blessed place where you can relax and charge new energies after a day of work. The house designed by the architect Sebastian Nagy is being blessed by its own occupier – a catholic priest. Drážovce is a small village close to Nitra. It is a quiet and green place where the treetops breathe a majestic atmosphere. We are now entering the parish garden dominated by the Roman Catholic church of Francis Xavier. From the green at the back of the garden emerges a stone wall – a monument. It is a house called Otio which at first sight looks modest and reserved.
The “Urban Interventions” civic association, in collaboration with the Vallo Sadovský Architects studio, have prepared an instant urban intervention under the bridge.

CHYBIK+KRISTOF ASSOCIATED ARCHITECTS won an international architectural and urbanistic competition on 33 apartment buildings close to Bratislava. The project aims to create quality housing with direct contact with water surface. It also sets a considerable part of the house into the riparian forest in the river-bed of the Danube. “We have designed for each object a group of four materials which create together a common atrium as well as a scenic jetty near the water. The resulting combination of two- or three-floored buildings makes ideal conditions for social life inside each villa house whilst at the same time it provides enough privacy in each apartment. We do not design an ensemble of anonymous apartments but a PLACE with a bountiful view on water surface and with sojourning areas in the semi-private space.”
