Mas de Lucia is a property dominated by the presence of an old magnificent country house surrounded by an extension of orange trees, where different events are held in the present. In this project we were commissioned together with Xavier Salvador to create a wide space for the celebration of outdoor events but protected from rain and sun and at the same time to integrate 2 existing industrial buildings in the intervention.
Restore means to work with the history of what we have inherited from the past and, simply, make it look towards the future… That requires looking back with affection but without nostalgia.
When we were asked to carry out the restoration of “LH135” building, as opposed to completely transforming the spaces, our main concept sought to embrace the valuable elements of the original industrial design and made them look towards the future.
Situated in a residential building in Barcelona since 1935 and a close proximity from the sea. The refurbished space is located on the top floor. The roof and gable were built using wooden beams and ceramic beam fills, with an optimal height to build a mezzanine, or attic. This would allow extension on the space and, at the same time, could accomodate a discriminating open study to the living room and the bedroom; forming a subtle work space surrounded by comfort in natural materials.
The house in La Cañada is placed on a residential area very close to Valencia. Its plot is surrounded by existing vegetation and opened to its immediate surroundings. A large number of pine trees and palm trees forms the background of the house. The origin of the project is the need of self-enclosed house, protected from the exterior but also fluid and opened to the depth of the garden.
The house located in a privileged environment, arises from its implementation in the place. A plot with a steep slope that descends to the east and main views that open to the south. With this starting point the house is deposited in the upper level, supported on a single support that is arranged perpendicular to the mountain. This element houses the technical and service areas and allows you to descend to the level of the lower garden where the pool is located. The floor of the house is articulated by the humid nuclei that located in the central part of the plant and illuminated zenithly hide the supporting structure. The day area and the rooms open to the views, protected from the sun by the terrace. The studios and the multipurpose room open to the north light. It is the structure that allows the site to be used that characterizes the section that configures the entire house.
Talk about a house with history. This farmhouse comprises two towers dating back to the 16th century and a main house added in the 17th century. Fun fact: the towers once served as watchtowers for a nearby castle to look out for pirates coming in from sea.
With such a long, rich history, these towers were placed under national protection, requiring us to focus our attention on the main house. Even this main building required careful consideration, using specialist builders and architects to restore this gem to its former glory.
Along the years many high standing residences of the XIXth Century expansion of Madrid have been modified to convert some rooms with little use into independent small apartments with minimal surface and optimum situation. In this case it is a 35 m2 wine cellars which was adjacent to the kitchen of one of these residences.
We are convinced that a small apartment cannot be a reduced large apartment since the scaling would always remind us that it is not what we would want it to be, the lost dimensions, the complex of inferiority with respect to a “real apartment”.
The project has been finished in 2018, it is situated in a centric neighborhood of Madrid. The program consists of a mixed use of shop space and exhibition of natural cosmetics and wellness and a massage with an added a hammam room.
Due to the nature of the program, our imaginary is structured by natural materials and warm and relaxed atmospheres. Therefore, we will use bamboo for floors, and bamboo poles as a second skin in the natural and plastered walls.
“E-domus” are new generation homes, with a conceptual project worked from technology, which makes a concrete way of living with the use of renewable energy, achieving greater sustainability. ”
The architect José María Carrillo Rodríguez, sensitized by sustainability and the environment, is involved in the creation of new homes for young people (or not so young), so that they can have an opportunity to access a luxury single family, but without costs elevated, within one of the residential areas of the municipality of Boadilla del Monte in Madrid, between two of the high standing urbanizations of Boadilla, such as “Las Lomas” and “El Olivar del Mirabal”.
“Puerta de Moguer” (meaning “Moguer Gate”) is the very first impression that visitors get from the city, like many other coach and train stations. Due to its location on the fairgrounds, it is also the facade of the town hall’s stall during the fair, which is a significative element that will take part of the archetypal imaginary for the next generations.
The gate works as a protective element against the inclement weather (sunlight, rain, wind…) during the waiting time and, at the same time, it provides comfort and information to the travellers (tourist content, promotions, culture events, etc.).
