Constructed with prefabricated steel and concrete modules this 200m2 home is built on asteeply sloping site in an island suburb of Stockholm. Because of the sloping site and the close proximity of the neighbors we chose to camouflage this rather large volume under a sledding ramp and a roof terrace, making it extremely discreet from the road.
Atrium House is a vacation home for a family of three generations on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. It is built on a slight ridge that marks the former location of the coastline a thousand years ago. In relation to the open and expansive landscape, the building seems more like a low wall than a house. It is built around a completely enclosed atrium courtyard that is designed to serve as a fixed point, a sheltered outdoor room. The rest of the property is left undisturbed as a meadow where grazing sheep prevent the land from returning to forest.
This private house is shaped as simple volumes contrasting the dramatic topography and the leafy greenery of the surroundings. The development restrictions of the site and the beautiful, tall oak trees did not allow for any standardized solutions. Instead the limitations became the starting point for the initial sketches. The result is a white L-shaped wooden house framing a secluded courtyard. The geometry of the house makes the most of the surrounding views, maximizes the development rights and creates a terrace high among the branches of the oak-trees.
Villa Arkö is a summer house situated on an island in the archipelago of Norrköping that will also have the possibility to house the family over Christmas and fall vacations. A steep slant towards south east with a marvelous view is the benchmark for the placement and the form of the villa. The house contains of an archetypical basic shape with a high-pitched roof completely covered in cedar wood which over time will get a silver grey color and interact with the surrounding cliff landscape. A glassed lower volume with sedum roofing and terraces is added on and is thereby creating a building which is following the decrease of the slant. The in-between spaces of the volumes creates out-door spaces in different cardinal directions, on different levels, with and without roofs. Sliding sun shields (with inbuilt mosquito net for the bed rooms) can cover in and protect the house from weather and wind.
This is a Sauna and relax building in Saltsjöbaden just outside Stockholm.
Saltsjöbaden community was founded in the 1890’s with the goal of creating a society close to nature following the example of central European spas, but near the nature and the sea with the possibility of boat and outdoor activities.
The villas built there was relatively large to fit the growing group of people with a good economy around the turn of the century.
A new mixed use development with 240 apartments in Loudden, Stockholm. All built in massive wood technique for the specialized wood construction developer Folkhem.
Stockholm is growing fast and the Loudden area, the former international transport harbour, on the northeastern island of Djurgården, is planned to be converted into a new urban area. In line with the overall direction for this new development to achieve real long term environmentally sustainable solutions, Tham & Videgård Arkitekter have developed a proposal for apartment blocks of solid wood.
The plot just outside Stockholm is located in a scenic area where mostly weekend homes are inserted among pine trees and rocks.
Six Walls House became early in the process a working title. The plot is long and narrow and extends between the road and the water. Perhaps as a contrast to the context, we wanted to build the house around a robust and clear material and concrete blocks with cement plaster became an important part. Simple geometry and detailing have been essential in order to build the house within a tight budget.
The requests in this project are obvious yet challenging: Cooking outdoors and indoors. A quiet reading area and a bedroom beneath the stars. All three requests has each been associated with a bay window and then superposed under a roof that turns into a terrace in front of the house. In total there are 8 rooms including two huts, three terraces, 8.5 meter ceiling on a total surface of about 85 sqm.
The project is located in the outskirts of Stockholm at the suburb of Rinkeby. Interestedly and uniquely the 12 multi-storey housing buildings are planned to be build over the E18 highway a main artery in the road system of Sweden’s capital.
An innovative housing project with a focus on social sustainability, which is in the first phase of the new urban development, project H +, in Helsingborg. We won the project together with Riksbyggen in a land use competition. The winning proposal has aims to create an environment of diversity, innovation, and sustainability. Placed on the plot is a residential building, with several commercial premises on the ground floor, a lush courtyard and living environment. The building is designed to meet the passive house standard. The proposal is designed with brick facades, a natural and sustainable materials, sourced locally. The color and bricklaying are varied for each stairwell length, which provides a variation in expression.
