For the first time, Kebony’s wood has been used in an ecclesiastical façade for a new chapel which opened this autumn in Mölndal, Sweden. European churches have tended to use traditional building materials for posterity, permanence and durability, the use of Kebony’s wood in this project allows the chapel a fusion of contemporary style and traditional durability.
The able, variable timber-block
Kjellander + Sjöberg’s proposal Rosendal is full of character and unlike anything else.
K + S has focused on surfaces, commercial units, the courtyard and the urban spaces that are used in quotidian yet innovative ways for multi-family housing in the city. The aim is to offer a block with a high sense of community – a welcoming context facilitating for good \”neighbourliness\”- from day one. K + S believes that the demand for unconventional forms of accommodation is great, where one has access to additional activities, contexts and functions beyond the own dwelling. Such as a joinery and workshop in the courtyard, a greenhouse on the roof, a space where you can repair your bike or paint your kitchen table. A space to have a flea market, host a crayfish-party or rabbit jumping contest; all in a green, recreational and generous setting, framed by apple trees and berry bushes.

Barcelona, 19 June 2014.-Stora Hotellet, the last project of Stylt Trampoli studio, is a venerable old hotel with a saltwater-stained past, in Umeå, way up north on the Gulf of Bothnia.Inspired by the city’s seafaring heritage, KriskaDECOR has given the hotel a sumptuous new look where the refined meets the rough, just like the high society once met the sailors in the hotel’s parlours and dining rooms. KriskaDECOR delivered amazing multi-coloured chain curtains for the lobby and reception area.
Having nourished an unfulfilled dream of his own doll’s house since boyhood, Per Johanson of Joliark has finally seen it take real shape in this metallic apartment complex on a former industrial site outside Stockholm.
The project comprises 44 dwellings organised within two volumes. A driving force in the design process has been the preservation of a pure and simple material expression. Rigorously composed meetings between wood, concrete and steel ensure the maintenance of a sense of whole.
The Cathedral
The cathedral, an inventor’s workshop for audiovisual design, forms a building that operates in the field of tension between two different landscapes, both as form and as idea.
Johan Sundberg Arkitektur’s latest work is an ample, yet succinct summerhouse on Sweden’s southernmost coast. Positioned with care in the forest by the popular Beddinge Strand, the plot is situated on an embankment that formerly demarcated the coast, but has since been engulfed by the surrounding woods. The area’s languid and balmy summers are counterbalanced in winter by brisk sea winds and salty air. The building opens to the Baltic Sea in the south, while the northern side faces the forest.
